I live in one of the poorest parts of Canada, I work for the government and make more $ than the average person, yet I can barely afford to pay my rent and bills. I have little debt, don't drink, don't gamble, don't pay for unnecessary things and remain financially responsible, yet I am almost living pay to pay and unable to save. If for example you bought a house for $1 million, by the time you finish paying it off, and the value goes up to $1.5 million, you should be able to deduct any money you paid for Renovation and upkeep + property taxes + mortgage payments such as interest. Then SHOW me how much capital gains there are. If you live in a home or own property for more than 5 years, you should be able to deduct expenses from the profit made on the property?
