Been dwelling on the nanotech ascension and I think you gotta play in a fairly unique way, nanotech worlds produce nanites with no need for pop jobs and so do cauldrons and transmuters, and there's the massive reductions in empire size from planets. Basically you only want to go nanites if you're playing to go super wide, it makes pops mostly irrelevant so you keep all your pops on a couple of core worlds for research and what few alloys you need for pop assembly and megastructures and otherwise just rely on your massive passive income of nanites.

Nanotech+imperial perogative+void forged+habitat in every system+cosmogenesis buildings in habitats is a build I tried in the past. Takes a while to kick in but can be very powerful against crisis

Their is the tall nanite build as well, but this is more of a lifestock build, and its I think even more dangerous than the wide variation (tho this goes wide as well in the end) Just take the traditions that give you nanites from jobs and be indivilistic, then its just a good amount of lifestock on a maxxed out planetary ascension planet. You can get about 1 nanite per lifestock in the end. and its then just take all the pops and make them lifestock. (and if you want to going galactic nemesis might allow you to kinda get a huge amount of menace as well)

I am running nanites on my chrrent megacorp playthrough. Sad part is that I have aquatic adaptation and mastercraft inc on so i need s crapton of food despite being machine. The result has been a blended wide/tall playstyle where i try to keep as few planets as possible ungoo’d in order to keep making food. This ascention is the fanatic militerist go to. Free ships that scale off of how many worlds you hold and encourages a lack of food which discourages xenophilia. Interesting ascention path, i quite like it.

One bug is an important reason I don't like nano ascension. Build a nanite ship, create another version, you will be forced to 'upgrade' all you nanite ships to it. So basicaly I can not use different loudouts but only one unless I am supercarefull. That is a bumer. Also nanite ships and other ships (specialy crisis ships) don't mix well because of the upkeep. In my opinion nano ascension can be annoying because of that. What do others think about those two issues?
