Thanks for this podcast, actually I was searching for the Tamil perspective discussion who really understand the BGM and small nuances which used in the film,and I'm satisfied.

I'm a mallu Christian. Just so you all know, most Malayalis love Tamil Nadu and it's people. ❤

It also shows the preconceived notions about Tamilians from the Malyali angle. But without loud proclaiming, the film shows how Tamilians in the village handle the situation with utmost empathy towards the Malayali team.

Someone should make a movie which shows preconceived notions about Malayali from a Tamilian angle.

Actually Lijos grandfather (whose name was James which was also the name of Mamoottys character) was a Tamilian. And hence Lijo grew up watching Tamil movies and listening to Tamil songs. The whole movie was a tribute to Tamil cinema.

In the last 10 years, Malayalis and Tamils have become closer than before. Tamils started watching Malayalam movies since the release of Premam movie. Before that only Sabarimala-Palani connection. But Malayalees used to listen Tamil songs and watch Tamil movies since 1990 s. Same is the case with Hindi movies and songs. Historically, in India, Tamils are the closest people to the Malayalis, part of the ancient Tamilakam.

There is a small correction bro , maybe you are a 2k kid but i am a 90s kid so i know Tamil people used to watch or started watching malayalam movies from Mammooty movies like New Delhi CBI Diary kuruppu and all in fact CBI run more than 200 days in those days in malayalam language itself not dubbed then mohanlal movies like mooonnam mura and all suresh gopis dubbed movies also had good market in the 90s and of course premam gave a re entry for malayalam movies among tamil audience now
@sreekanthmadiyan Жыл бұрын
@@mylove242globally im also 90s kid. I can't believe what you said. The Tamil friends whoever I have asked are very much limited to Tamil movies and songs. They never listen to malayalam songs. And also Tamil movies get released every nook and and corner of Kerala. But malayalam movies get released in may be in Chennai Coimbatore and some other cities. If Malayan movies were watched by Tamils like malyalis watched Tamil movies, malayalam industry would have had a better market.

Nanpakal nerathu mayakkam is also very much a malayalam phrase. Not the normal spoken malayalam. But poetic malayalam. Poetic/literary malayalam is almost tamil+sanskrit

I think it is possesion and not deeam. . A possesed person can speak a language not earlier known (atleast that is how it is believed). One dont speak unknown language in dream. Can one dream of people who he had not seen previously.

The anchor is slightly mistaken. Yes, he is a Christian, but what he is showing is not Christian sentiments about Tamils, but Mallu sentiments about Tamils. Of course, they are showing transitions from mallu to Tamil, and from Christian to Hindu. But the negative sentiments Mammootys character James and his companions have towards Tamils are not due to their Christian upbringing; in fact it is explicitly made clear that they are referring to Tamils in a casual derogatory manner. The anchor due to his cultural upbringing cannot comprehend that this shows regional linguistic/cultural divides, not really (or majorly) a religious divide. The director being a mallu, made the conscious decision to portray Tamils in a largely positive light, while showing the mistaken assumption about Tamils among the outwardly "sophisticated" mallu travelers. The lesson is of course not that only Mallus have such problems and not Tamils, or American whites have such problems but not Blacks. The lesson is always to be careful about our assumptions about others we do not know about, and whom we have never lived with. And that our souls suffer the same sorrow and the same joy in living through our varied very differently culturally constrained lives. Another issue this film shows is how our need to boast about our culture selves makes us smaller than our limitless human souls--which know no such boundaries between life and death. Something Tamils can think about (along with mallus).

@woosterjeeves Жыл бұрын
@@viswanathans7442 I am not offended at all. I am just pointing out the interesting fact that Mallus would clearly depict this as Mallu vs Tamil, while this Tamil anchor depicted this as Hindu vs Christian.
@viswanathans7442 Жыл бұрын
i couldn’t e see anywhere that it’s Hindu vs Christian. It just shows the cultural difference of Hindu and Christians
@woosterjeeves Жыл бұрын
@@viswanathans7442 Yes, The tamil anchor thought it is a christian having cultural differences with Hindus and thus talking against them. Any Mallus who see the movie will KNOW that the mallus director is showing the Mallu having cultural difference with Tamils. It is explicitly stated again and again in the movie (from the mallus character's side) about the Tamils...never once did the mallus characters berate the "Hindu" culture. But the Tamil anchor, given his cultural upbringing did not get that. That was my point.
