He still didn't want to give up, but he knew something shifted. When Kin-chan looked inside the window, that was when he knew Naoki is also in love with Kotoko.

Just a correction in 2:33, actually in the Manga Version Of Itazura na Kiss ( the one that this Jdrama is Highly Based on) Irie’s Father is the one that mentioned to Naoki that Kotoko will not be going because she was going to go with her friends, so Naoki didn’t ask his father , it was just told to him☺️
