Naomi should not have resorted to physical violence, and her temper was bad, admittedly. But let’s not pretend these people were innocent service people. These were people who stolen items from her, attempted to blackmail or extort her, and or tried to traffic information about her to tabloids. Due to her family circumstances, Naomi did not have people in her inner circle who she could transition into roles on her staff. She basically had strangers working for her who the agencies had assigned. No loyalty. Also, people resent taking orders from a black girl, so running your ship is complicated further by that fact. I’m not saying she ever should’ve hit them, but what I am saying is that some of these people had nefarious intentions from the get-go, and others, who knew of her temper, would purposely insight things in order to get a payday or to be able to run to the tabloids and get a payday there as well. She wasn’t just being nasty to ppl like waiters and baggage handlers for the hell of it. This wasn’t that. This was to people who were assigned to take care of her personhood, and did terrible things to her behind-the-scenes. She was justifiably angry. But her anger issues led to violence, which was not acceptable, and she has taken responsibility for that, gone to counseling, and been made accountable in the court of law. There is nothing else to settle regarding these matters from 25+ years ago. This is a closed subject.

Being on those flight logs is a crime. Sorry. I loved her too. Maybe she was being blackmailed but she was definitely involved in the trafficking of young girls. There are many celebrities who we loved and now see the ugly under belly of Hollywood and Entertainment. Once is a mistake, several times says you're involved. She was way to smart to be brainwashed. She was involved with a group of people who control the industry and they thought they were never going to get caught. Been in this industry for some years and I have seen things first hand and know from my friends in the business how evil it is. They have you pledge your life to the dark side. modeling industry is very scary, industry in all aspects, acting, music, dancing, for children is scary. this all reminded me of gisele bundchen, having to walk a show topless at EIGHTEEN! and she was so emotional over it. i cant imagine, that’s still practically a child. and then went on to date leonardo dicaprio who serially dates women under the age of 25. who knows what gisele endured as well.

Black models getting pitted against each other is nothing new. First it was Beverly Johnson and Iman In the late 70's and 80's. Then it was Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks for the 90's. Tyra was never on Naomi level. Tyra is big fake crybaby... We see how the table has turned against Tyra... Especially the treatment of models on her show....

I think even every escort and yacht girl is a victim in a sense, victim of patriarchal world where female body is a product that you can market, sell and someone can buy it. Even if it's their choice. And models are the most objectified by the industry character on its own.

For the most part, no one's putting a gun to their head.. Unless of course they're being roofied at parties. We cannot pretend like many women are willing to sleep with men to get what they want : opportunity, connections, clout, money, a 18 year check I mean baby, etc. I feel bad for those coerced into it but it's a fact that many women willingly seek those parties and men out. It's transactional and they are 1 of the parties who thinks they're benefiting from it. It's all gross. Watch the Playboy bunny documentary that exposes its dark side, now that was a trafficking front in plain site, and everyone knew it, actors, politicians, cops, rockstars all went there, and it wasn't for the cocktails.

Having had nowhere near the success or access of Naomi but having witnessed numerous incidences of sexual, substance and financial abuse I could only imagine what she went through. I say financial because agencies made sure to keep you spending money before you made it, whether on clothes, lifestyle or on drugs/alcohol as a method to control you. Desperate broke girls wearing insanely expensive clothes but cannot buy a meal will do whatever they are told to keep the money flowing. Some girls were the only hope for raising their families out of poverty and felt they had no choice. Some parents looked the other way or admonished them to play the required role. From the wealthy homeowner in the Hamptons loaning his mansion for a photoshoot and in return gaining access to the nubile young thing fresh off the proverbial boat for a "walk" at 2am, she was 14 and at 20 I was the chaperone and I refused to let her go to the photographer who felt you could only look sexy for the camera after actual sex. The industry prefers them young and bend over backwards to convince parents that all the required precautions will be in place and also the Easter Bunny is real. I was already old when I started at 19 and had my own mind so I was not ideal:) No excuses for her bad behavior and even worst decisions because at some point you have to take ownership but it is sometimes difficult to see consequences when you have seen none for monsters and you are told that your face, your body that you are a commodity.

I had the opportunity to dress Naomi Campbell a few times (Bill Blass & Donna Karan) at the tents during the years I worked with the Ground Crew. She was very sweet and respectful. There were other models who weren’t as gracious. This is understandable when you have many hands touching your face, body, being told to put this on, take that off - it’s a lot for anyone going through the process of being fashioned. Take into consideration, these are very young women during the height of their modeling careers. I’ve literally had model say, “don’t touch me”, after being poked and prodded time after time during the course of fashion week. To honor this request would have been extremely difficult, since the clothes must hit the runway, and they are being paid to model them. And never underestimate she is a black girl in this billion-dollar game. Put all of this on top of all their personal issues. I like her a great deal for her humble sense of being.

With all due respect and to keep it short, most of gen x were raised with very little parental interaction, protection and guidance. Most of us roamed the streets during the daylight hours and watched a lot of tv. We didn’t have rights (women and children)and there was no such thing as PC. So most of us didn’t / couldn’t question the norm regardless of how wrong it was in today’s standards. So as we age age and discover that the things we’re taught aren’t unhealthy or are toxic, some of us are making efforts to correct and reprogram our brains. That’s not easy. So Naomi, like most of us , found her coping mechanisms….. She is on her own journey of self discovery and it’s not our duty to police her or her mother or any one else , for that matter. And I speak German, and in Germany they would say Epstein the way you say it. Thank you

So true about those of us who are Gen X. We were on our own and became resilient. We all feel that it is best to "suck it up and move forward." No, she's an easy target and there's a difference. She has notoriously bad temper and is very spoiled. Her story is not the cent worth violin song told, her mother was very well connected even today, look who she married. She grew up with no limits and has obvious anger issues and they just helped her be her. While the behavior of some towards her was bad, her reaction has always been disproportionately over the top. In short, she's an unpleasant human being who happens to be magnetic in front of cameras and walking. And this is coming from someone who is a fan, but I'm objective, would anyone with a healthy self esteem want to deal with her in person?

I agree with you Karinne.13 yr's old. Your brain,' Mind is not even developed yet. My heart goes out to all just like her. I can't even imagine. Nobody getting away with nothing, The God up above see's everything. She was robbed of fond memories we share, being in the 8th Gr. Etc I cherish those times. We got whilpings back then, even paddled in school. but that made the Best & Respectful generation

Another great and thought provoking profile of a fascinating and enigmatic woman! You always do an amazing job. I think to reach the pinnacle of success in the fashion and modeling industry you’re going to be victimized and you’re also going to have to turn a blind eye to others being victimized at the very least. Whether or not she was participating in abuse we may never know, but having knowledge and not speaking up makes one complicit. To speak up and expose these abusers would cost her her career and everything she’s worked for her entire life. What a tortured existence. I agree that grace should be given to some extent and judgement should be reserved because there is so much that we don’t know.

I think she is absolutely gorgeous and as a model one of the best . If she just has anger issues and has made a couple mistakes she can grow from . Then i can understand, however if she has been heloing victimized others in the upstien way then no i have no symoathy. Because she knew better and she said herself. She didnt care that her mom couldnt be there she wasnt gonna let that stop her from doing what she wanted. That does not mean you should help victimized others to get the top . IMO
