Always delighted to watch Su-Wei play. Her unconventional playing style holds up well against the top players and the creativity inherent in her game is so much fun, especially considering the type of players she's up against. Huge hitting, physical, relentless bashing and she's out there all sleight, maybe 80 lbs, cutting angles and ninja-level drop shots. Love her. Love Osaka too, good match from her today.

I couldn't agree more te Hsieh. Sometimes we just enjoy the game no matter she wins or loses. She is just magical and fun to watch. The calibre that no other players possess. Hsieh gives color to WTA tennis like Santoro and Stepanek to ATP.

Not going to lie...when I first started watching Hsieh about a year or so ago, she frustrated the hell out me! But I now have nothing but the utmost respect for her; her respect for other players and the game, and the ability to craft her own style and game to match up with the biggest and hardest hitting players on tour.

Justin Wu Yes I know that the draw is unbalanced but in the end that‘s just how it is. The draw was made by coincidence. I always say that qualifiers should get determined positions in the draw. All 4 landed in the bottom half. It should be 2 in the top and 2 in the bottom half. At slams, it always happens that there‘s a R1 between Q vs Q and a R1 match between two top 40 players. It feels wrong.

SeeSaw444: Actually I think her style is perfectly suited for clay courts.
@SeeSaw4445 жыл бұрын
NotSoHandyTim With clay courts being a slower surface with higher bouncing balls it will be tough. Her favorite shot selection such as drop shots, slices, high balls (especially on defense) have to be executed with precision. For example the drop shot can’t bounce to high or to far from the net clay because it will sit-up against an opponent. These shots are used on clay of course but I feel because she doesn’t generate big power on her serve or ground strokes her style is more favorable on faster surfaces. Also, clay courts reward players who play defense well.

If Hsieh had been playing in the 70’s 80’s she would be just another player. But in this era when everyone only focuses on sheer power, they never learn how to deal with tactical trickiness, which is exactly where Hsieh comes in and gains her momentum. I hope to see more brilliance out of her games.

Win or lose its allways a delight to see Hsieh play, but this match up in particular didn´t look so well for her, in clay her flat shots and slices dont travel as low and as out of Osakas hitting zone as they do in the hardcourts. Here Osaka has more time to take full control and punish her with her unique clean and powerful strokes.

Hsieh just reminds me of Stosur circa 2009-2011...someone who had these nifty lil abilities...(in Stosurs case) kick serve, inside out/runaround forehand, heavy topspin...all these things that threw everyone for a loop and then her game was picked apart...wont be much longer for hsieh
@MrCWL5 жыл бұрын
Love this matchup. Hsieh slightly smarter player and has a good strategy of going hard crosscourt to Osaka forehand and then getting the running dip backhand crosscourt, Osaka always plays it back to her. Osaka had to play her shots down the line and she eventually did, and eventually revved up the speed and spin and hit winners there. But Hsieh was so close multiple times to go up 3-1 and it would have been a completely different match if she did. After that massive game for ten or fifteen minutes, Hsieh was clearly tired and made some quick errors and Osaka just kept her foot down and ran off with it, but Hsieh had the definite mental and tactical edge for the first four games. Was looking like Hsieh would win because the clay, even though it doesn’t suit flat shots (making me think Hsieh would be no match for Osaka heavy topspin), the clay actually suited Hsieh for wrongfooting Osaka early in the point. I would love to know what Hsieh would have to say about her drop off after 2-2

Hsieh is exactly the player whom everyone wants to avoid to meet at an early stage. Particularly so after some interval between tournaments.
