it's a shame you can't reply to old comments anymore, because I really want to make fun of the dude who wants to teach us all about music but thinks someone's playing bass on this track

actually, if you listen, there is, in fact, a bass track. and I never said anything about shredding, what I was talking about was writing something interesting rather than rocking out

They remind me of the Pop-Rivets, which to me makes that White Stripes comment pretty funny. You have to know the history to get it though.

Leon--This group does NOT have a bass player and their style is just that: THEIR STYLE. If you don't like it I suggest you either move on or "burn it all away", because you're not as smart as you think you are.

well, I can tell you the chord progression without picking up my guitar for starters. the opening 5 seconds (all I listened to the second time around) is E, to G#, to A, and had you listened closer there is a bass track in this song as no guitar is capable of reproducing an octave below it's lowest string and yet with an entirely different tone

oh my, if you think either Stevie Ray or Eddie Van are skilled you certainly lead a very sheltered life! and what does this song to have to offer? I could have gotten the same generic trash from the pixies some 30 years earlier, but even then it was outdated

this is a fuckin unreal song. and all this over-analysation of music is ridiculous, after all it is art. and if art is anything it is subjective to the viewer, thus not making this a so called "devolution" but instead an interpretation, an interpretation of what this person thought music should sound like. to me it sounds really good, however if it you dont like it then move on and go listen to your shreddy van halen. amazing in his own right, but just simply a different interpretation of music

it must suck to only like music with "skill"

Holy shit Leon Harpinger is such a troll. Music being hard to play or having unnecessary complexity doesn't make it good. Leave it to someone with such a simplistic conception of art to rail on about "de-evolution." Very ironic. Get out of here, guy.

I guess budget and aesthetic called for scarcely audible vocals. Guys, this is the reason kids in my town insist on shitty recording quality. Please stop with the lo-fi. You can actually afford better. I promise.
@yakuborigins10 жыл бұрын
Why should they not use lo-fi recording styles? A band can do whatever they want. All that matters is that they are pleased with the way their music sounds.
@IsoMorphix10 жыл бұрын
Lo-fi doesn't have to mean deliberately obscuring parts of your music to the point of almost non-audible levels.
@yakuborigins10 жыл бұрын
But if that's what this band wants their music to sound like they can do that. They don't have to go out of their way to please everyone. I personally didn't have a problem with the vocals. But it's w/e man.
@IsoMorphix10 жыл бұрын
I summarized my personal position already. Obscuring the hell out of the vocals has been done to death by other groups trying to deconstruct typical "songs." Naomi Punk have interesting ideas for brutalist guitar-music, but they aren't pushing new ground with their vocal technique. They just sound like a barrel of other bands happening upon the same technique. Some of those bands have less talent than Naomi Punk. Other bands have more, and leave me bewildered as to why Naomi Punk specifically is receiving attention. It's almost as if they were arbitrarily chosen to be cool. They are literally so many other bands playing with the same sound, and none of them are doing super compelling variations on that theme. I say this all because I play music and bleed it too. I attend shows where they literally just make noise and set organs on fire. I've seen 5 piece math rock bands do inscrutable things to their instruments with glee to time signatures that are barely comprehensible. I recently attended a "chamber music concert" in a warehouse in which one of the pieces was a quadraphonic series of digitized explosions and hums, which was then followed by a violin piece with no discernible key. I also own nearly every Mountain Goats record he recorded on busted boombox, which had a mechanical whirring sound impossible to miss.I like Swans. I can get down to Coltrane and James Brown equally. I went through a phase of strictly enjoying music sung in Portuguese. All of this is to say I like a lot of different types of music, and I keep a really open mind about all of it, but this trend of purposefully obscuring the vocals doesn't seem artistic to me anymore. It largely smacks of trend behavior, it doesn't seem to lend this music any strength, but hampers it from being interesting, original rock. My opinion of course, but I have legitimate reasons for having it.
@yakuborigins10 жыл бұрын
i play music too man. i don't agree with purposefully muffling your vocals, i was just saying that at the end of the day, it's their song and they can whatever they want. artistic or not. i wasn't ever trying to pull a "AGREE WITH ME!!!" or anything haha. Just keep doin you man

@leonherperger405512 жыл бұрын
oh my, it isn't bad enough for the parallel bar chords, but the utter lack of any skill on the part of the bassist and drummer! if you are reading this and are a fan of it means that de-evolution already happened and the masses are more ignorant than what we had thought
