Fun fact: The rocket that shows up is a real thing, and it was called Energia (except in cyrillic, and with the weird russian letters). It was designed to carry the Russian equvalent of the space shuttle.

Energia itself was not a Russian shuttle, it's counterpart the Buran was a clone of the shuttle orbiter that would be strapped onto the side but wasn't necessary. Energia could launch without Buran attached, but the shuttle needed the orbiter for anything.

Energija would also have been the first entirely reusable spacecraft if given just a couple years more, and Buran could already successfully be piloted and landed remotely.
