"With wanting to revisit the old style of SOJOURNER I decided to tap into our roots on a lyrical level. 'Perennial' very much follows the thread of nature and it’s loss at our very own hands. This theme was prevalent in several songs on our first album so it made sense to revisit that. The vocals were meticulously worked on with Lucia to make sure that every single word worked in its tone and placement. Later, with Tom joining in on backing vocals at the very end, we truly felt happy with the end result.We are super excited about our future with our two new awesome members!"

Wow! This backs up my theory why metal is the greatest form of music and has such a close community. It's the most accurate expression of human conciousness. Every raw emotion, beauty, power, every up and down of the human soul can be maximized and projected through metal. Amazing song!

The new song is amazing, feels like a callback to Empires of Ash, beyond just the beautiful cover art. The piano movement, the blast beats, it has such urgency. We get to welcome the new members, and Emilio’s vocals have never sounded better.

I keep returning to this. Honestly this is stellar work. I’ve been following multiple bands and metal outlets for years and years and rarely find something so moving and beautiful in an extreme genre. The vocal passages are magnificent and the combo of brutality with the female vocals is mind-blowing. Not since Tristania’s Beyond the Veil have I heard a beauty and the beast approach as gorgeous as this one.

I'll use my own account to answer since our vocalist already answered on the band account, but as the songwriter I have to say Tristania was a huge influence on me during my teenage years (especially Widow's Weeds and Beyond the Veil), so that means a lot to hear! They've definitely played a role in influencing the band on a musical level :)

Thank you! That was the intention, really wanted to wrap up the energy and inspiration felt during the early days with the newer sounds playing a supporting role. I've been home for a bit in New Zealand so I actually wrote and recorded it all back in the same room that I wrote and recorded Heritage of the Natural Realm back in the day before I moved, so it's a special song and a bit of a return to where we started for us. After writing and recording 3 full lengths since 2015 I needed to reset a bit before starting the next one, the Perennial EP was just a way to show off Tom and Lucy's vocals and let people know we're still going strong even though it's not the usual one year on/one year off release schedule we'd been doing so far

I was a huge fan of that series growing up! A lot of my writing is influences by the Mushishi OST by Toshio Masuda and Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill OSTs! There's been a lot of that in our piano parts since we started back in the Empires days!
