I liked your review very much. A very good book by Hilary Conde Mark is "Sword Of France" where there is a major concentration on Napoleon's sisters. his Mother and Desiree. In this film being discussed For me the lead actor IMO is too old and the lead actress playing Josephine too young. I would like to add something no-body mentions and that is I thought Marie Antoinette was badly portrayed. Even her arch enemies conceded she went to her death with great quiet dignity, bravery and grace - not like the smug arrogant harpy striding down the street as indicated in the film. Good luck with your work. Keep it up.

An apalling movie which misrepresented Napoleon Bonaparte at every level. Phoenix was not very good I'm afraid - he looked bored and worn out, and delivered his lines like he was reading the news. Not the depiction of the charismatic, intelligent, energetic and (until he started ailing) handsome leader he was. If Josephine is in the directors cut for even another second, she will already have been in the film far too much. The battles were dull and utterly wrong. To see why watch the 1970 film 'Waterloo'.
