I'm not surprised OP is being dragged in the comments. I don't think that's warranted, but there's something not quite right about his story. Nobody is always the victim in every situation. Abusive Mother and Father... OK. Abusive step-father... OK. But then extended family, multiple girlfriends, their families, his friends, the police, a private investigator... basically EVERYONE is the bad guy. That just doesn't track with the kind of abuse he's describing. Most abuse victims find someone, a mentor, a confidant... somebody they speak highly of, who can do no wrong in their eyes, even if their praise is irrationally generous, there's usually someone like that. Even if that person is just as bad as everyone else, the victim tends to see them through rose-tinted glasses. There's nobody like that in the story. It's just everyone is out to get him, everything is a plot against him. All people are just pawns in this conspiracy. That's not normal, even for extreme abuse cases. That may just be irrational paranoia from the abuse, that does happen. But nobody is this much of a victim. At some point they refuse to be seen that way, even by themselves. He would have run away. He might have simply killed his parents. He might have killed himself to escape it. But one way or another, he would have made a significant change. I'm not saying he's lying, or that he's at fault. But objectively, he abandoned his daughter to his abusive parents. He couch-surfs with squatters, can't hold down even a minimum-wage job for very long. I just can't wrap my head around anyone enduring that abuse, recognizing it as abuse, then surrendering anyway. He makes MANY bad choices, repeatedly, and yet it's everyone else's fault. Yes, other people can cause problems for you, but you're still accountable for your own choices, and there are no good choices being made here, despite him knowing how those bad choices will end. And he throws around the term "Narcissist" a lot, in relation to everyone. That's actually a pretty rare diagnosis. But OK, he's using it in the colloquial sense, not the clinical sense... but he displays most of those traits as well. Example: He abandoned his daughter to abusive people, hasn't seen her in over a year, all because doing so is bad for HIS mental health, then hopes they don't brainwash her into thinking he abandoned her... HE DID! He doesn't see beyond himself, except when it's to excuse his circumstances by laying the blame on others. The apple didn't fall very far from the tree.

S1: it pisses me off when people say "just leave" when someone is talking about being abused. first of all, if you're a victim of abuse like that, you're brainwashed into thinking you're worthless. that nobody will hire you, help you, like you, love you. you're being constantly cut off from friends and family - sometimes physically, but oftentimes family/friends are being manipulated against the victim or/and the victim will be made to question if other people care for them or straight up if everyone hates you. your mind and spirit are broken into little pieces. then there's stalking and harrassing the victim, the victim's family/friends/employers/clients to rip away whatever success they may have achieved - it's deliberate attack to make the victim see they are worthless and a failure and retraumatize them. it's also about cutting the resources for another escape - where would you go without money, friends or family to fall back on? they constantly stalked and harrassed op and anyone he came into contact with until it was too much hassle to keep him around. he was harrassed out of jobs (and therefore out of money and places to live). they pulled in his ex to use his daughter as a pawn in this sadistic game. without money and resources, he can't fight back. legal battles cost money and they keep making sure he is never established enough to fight against them or even keep his daughter with him. even if he tried to get custody of her, do you think these people would just let her go? that they wouldn't pull every dirty trick in the book, every lie they could come up with to make sure he never has her? i've seen more cases like that than i'd care to admit. worst of all is that judges get just as manipulated by assholes like op's parents as anyone else. i had cases judge would see the evidence of abuse and STILL grant custody of the kids to the abuser rather than the caring parent who loves them. it's infuriating and sad. these legal battles often go on for years with no happy outcome. it's even worse when the kids are manipulated by the abusive parent to blame and hate the other parent.

"Story 1: OP is such a loser, my God. Like, bro, grow some balls for once! How do you stand there and let your daughter be treated like that? I hate people who don't help themselves. This is why I don't have sympathy for those who get bullied-if you're not going to help yourself, why should I care? (Trump 2024)"

@@NessaEllenesse Yes, it's messed up that he was abused as a child and as a teenager, but at some point as an adult, he needs to take control of his life and grow a backbone. Especially as a man, no one is coming to save you, not only that he has a daughter to take care of so he should be running backbone even faster

they were literally stalking him - they employed family, friends, strangers to track him down and ruin whatever progress he made. even used spying devices/software to keep tabs on him even outside their house. they pulled his ex and by that also his daughter to force contact with them. they stalk and harrass him at work until he's fired becuase they disturb the business. with stalkers like that, there's no winning unless you have good money and connections to get restraining order, police to actually do their damned jobs and security to keep them away.
