I have heard it said that there is no hope for a narcissist. I was raised surrounded by them. and I became one. I honestly believe im on the road to recovery. being a narcissist is a miserable way to live. and they live a complete lie. and hurt others.

So true, Carol. Make it No Contact, No Contact, No Contact! If that's impossible (i.e, if narc is a co-worker), just be polite and keep contact to a minimum.

It is not WHAT the narcissist wants, but HOW he want these things, HOW he goes about obtaining them, and then WHAT USE he makes of them.

Mine just dumped me 2 days after my birthday. He moved a new supply here 2 days after my birthday. He’s been grooming her for 8 months without me knowing because she lived in a different state. She bought him a motorcycle (Harley $38,000) and a $1,500 watch. I guess I can’t compete.. Do you offer therapy outside of your videos? This just happened 3 weeks ago.

I am the main supporter and chief supply of my narcissistic spouse, and I perform these requirements in spades. When I am unavailable, I pay for it in the form of stonewalling, gaslighting, compartmentalization, and other assorted punishments. It is exhausting. My hormonal response to these traumas (he does not physically abuse; he will not risk his freedom) lasts a while and has left indelible imprints on my brain. I am only as good as my last good deed. I am trying to steadily detach myself emotionally from this nightmare, until I can escape him entirely. Relationships with narcissistic people are not worth the life, agony and time you exchange for it. You cannot love them to decency, compassion, empathy or normalcy.

Therapists always told me about my mother not being "real", now i know they were talking about her "false self". She acts all sweet, charming and fun in public but behind closed doors she's horribly critical, angry and insecure. She lives for control and will do anything to get it. And I do mean anything. She is a monster..in a dress.

In my case, my X was the "king" of his "kingdom" which included his friends, who were and are now his "handlers," "personal assistants" or what I called his "Quasimotos," i,.e., his narcissistic suppliers. His Pathological Narcisssistic Space was what I called his "kingdom." During my time with him, I formulated my own lexicon to try to make sense of what was going on. Now, I have your lexicon and have finally, thru your videos, made sense of the insanity I was subjected to. WAS. :) now free!

I think that a narcissist can never really run out of narcissistic supply then. He/she can simply lash out at a complete stranger in the street and get a reaction (narcissistic supply). Am I correct?

A little well deserved praise is good. But to a normal person another who keeps on praising sounds like they want something from the normal. A narcissist seems to keep needing that praise. The narcissist thinks of themselves as a deity forever needing worship. No worship then suffer my wrath.

Sam, in your opinion, does my husband have any chance of rehabilitation if his therapist says that he possesses "insight?" She is one of the top trauma therapists in the nation and she also recommended your book for him to read.
@chaostheory165 жыл бұрын
Brett, this is not always true. It may not be able to be fixed to the extent of non-narcissists’ mindset, but it can be significantly improved if the patient is willing to put in long and hard work. Sadly, most are not.

Hey val i have been doing research and i would like to know more about the covert narcissist, i am wondering if i am one!!! thank you very much!
@lethimwhoboasts9 жыл бұрын
I understand some of what is meant here.. If one were to attempt to describe this to someone from the outside looking in. How aware, from the inside of a narcissist, is someone that they are living for attention? Addicted to it? Yes, they know what they are doing, and that how they are doing it is wrong... But, how does it look to the addict, emotionall, mentally, etc, when they approach their "fix" of N-supply? Being a disordered personality, it seems like they're not aware of the larger picture, somewhere. If confronted with these facts that they are going from attention fix to attention fix, does it vary from person to person? From their minds perspective, what do they try to rationalize it as, if at all? Or is it so caught up in the thrill of the fix that they can't even rationalize? Much like any addict? Just wondering what the chaos looks like to the one in charge of the storm..

Sam Vaknin Have been.. for six months or more. Maybe I'm just a slow study, slow to wake up to this. Also bought your book (s).. Rereading the page you linked... Maybe I'm just curious, whether it matters or not, what the "waking up" to NPD looks like to the N.. have also watched a couple of your interviews. Just wondering what the light coming on takes for most N's. The mechanism of the denial, the painful revelation... is there a normal progression of unveiling, regardless of prognosis, other than possibly violent denial followed by eventual acceptance...

I think it is normal to want to be acceptet and valued by others. My boyfriend who is no narcist, but diagnosed a dependent personality disorder wants to be seen as inteligent and creative etc. as he is as well, everyone wants this, I mean, who wants to be treatend like an idiot by others? We all have achievments made and goals we want to reach, of course you want to be respected for this. A man whitout ambitions is dead, I met such people, theyre were that strange, because they have no life.

But I have hear more amazing and accurate accounts from my best friend of 26 years, we are 39 now. But he turns boring stories, into amazing events. but not totally or possibly not at all Delusional. but as long as everyone else believes it, he can lie to himself

***** As someone who deals with a narcissist on a daily basis I'm inclined to agree with Sam Vankin. He woos his victims en masse. When they disappoint him the consequences do not bear thinking about. If he wins or if he looses he's dangerous.
