i had a narcissist in my life, we stopped being friends because they always got mad at me for not always having enough time or patience. When we ended our friendship, they told me that it was my fault that we stopped being friends, not putting the least bit of blame on themselves. It was mentally draining to be around them…
@bunille3 жыл бұрын
Not putting the least bit of blame on themselves is a prime hallmark of it. Especially if you've known the person for a long time and don't assume that you know 100% of them, as they could simply have been someone who doesn't admit faults in emotional situations: something many non-narcs can do, but would admit fault later on, but NOT as a hoovering tactic to bring you back, get attention, or likes, as non-narcs would apologise for the sake of apologising, not to lure you back in, although it would be nice if friendships were not lost if we're being honest. A non-narc might want to come back, but not for the sake of themselves. And they definitely will learn from their mistakes, assuming they do not have another mental illness and what mistake it was. E.g. emotional volatility might repeat but it isn't a sign of narcissism, but things like smear campaigning is, and that isn't even a possibility of any other disorder.

Number 5 is wrong. The narcissist doesn’t think you are responsible for their wrongdoings. On the contrary, they KNOW it’s their fault. They just don’t WANT to take responsibilty, cause that makes them seem vunerable and weak, because to them mistakes are for the weak. And they just feel like they are more special than others and a exception of the consequences. The narcissist throws guilt and responsibility for their mistakes onto you because they know this will harm you. The narcissists goal in the end is just to hurt you. The narcissist knows fully well what they’re doing. They don’t believe you are responsible, they know you aren’t, that’s why it’s fun for them to throw all this unnecessary guilt onto you. They aren’t some kind of “lost cause” and “they just don’t know any better”.

My mother in a nutshell. She's always expecting me to be ready to do anything she asks unless what I'm doing is something urgent like schoolwork. She always expects me to speak to her as if she's royalty and is always boasting about how good she raised me despite me only remembering my childhood being a really confusing, scary sort of void between trying to understand the world like every other toddler and young kid would and the constant fighting between her and my siblings. She also has this bs notion that I owe her money once I grow up and get a job. But then talking about jobs and moving out is taboo. She even disowned me once. Why? Because I said I want to move out once I'm 18 lol Some actual real quotes from her: "I'm your mom. I have a right to yell" "You need to respect me and part of that respect is closing the window while I'm sleeping" "Am I your mom? Go look for you mom" "If I tell you to divorce your wife, you'd do that won't you?" I don't even know how to explain this without confusing everyone who didn't have a narcissistic parent. If you know you know. Needless to say I hate the bitch. I'm sick and tired of this misconception that all sons of narcissistic mothers happen to be momma's boys. All it does is take blame away from the narc and turn the victim into a criminal. The whole thing with not being able to do stuff themselves is something found in the golden child, and only some of them actually become narcissists themselves. They can also be girls, it's not just something specific to a mother-son relationship. Feel free to talk to me if you're going through something similar struggling to move out from your narcissistic parent. I'm always open to listen.

I can so relate to your situation. My mum flips out and does not pick up my calls for weeks but goes behind my back complaining to my uncle things I didn’t even know I have done of which according to her I have. When she calls, she waits for it to beep twice and hang up the call just to blame you for not picking her calls. It was so confusing to me in the beginning because I haven’t lived with her for the most part of my life until last year. I have left the house now cos the gaslighting was unbearable and we haven’t spoken over a month. It is terrible when the narcissist is your mum but I am happy and stronger now. My self esteem has gotten so much better after I weaned myself off her. I feel your struggle man, we shall pull through and be better than the people that brought us here in the first place.

My father is such a narcissist that after I gave birth to my first child, he came to the hospital and proceeded to sit in my recovery room while I'm in immense discomfort, and talk about himself for over an hour. He also insulted the name we chose for my son ( we named him after my husband) right in front of my husband!! My life's biggest moment and he managed to make it all about him! I had another son a year later and after my kids were 1 and 2 years old, he didn't even remember their names. Pathetic excuse for a father. Sad part is, I was the golden child and developed some narcissistic traits just to be more like him and gain approval. It's been fairly easy to kick those narcissistic habits because I know how damaging they are to others.

I sometimes feel like am a narcissist, but I tend to try to hide when I'm feeling bad to not bother others. I "sacrifice" myself often for the needs of my closest people without them knowing. A narcissist doesn't really fit that description, strong co-dependency would fit better, but can you make a video about how to know that you are not a narcissist? It would really help me, because i cant really find something on the internet and I sometimes consider myself to be a very bad person because of this. I'm going to heal from that trauma and be happy, without impacting others negatively, who have no fault for my situation.

Some books they recommended to me that really helped: Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents The Narcissistic Family I really hope this helps!

Sometimes trauma and depression can lead to covert narcissism. Narcissism is more like a person who needs healing and I don’t necessarily think it should be looked at as someone who just wants to hurts others. A narcissist has many insecurities and that’s why covert narcissists tend to hide away. You should also really consider narcissism if your childhood wasn’t all that great. A lot of the characteristics of a narcissist are coping methods to hide those insecurities we developed as children. That’s why narcissism is considered childish when you rationalize it. Becoming self aware is the first step to realizing you’re a narcissist, although sometimes it might not always be the case. When I finally realized I was a narcissist and that was what was wrong with me, i was finally able to be happy. I wish you well on your journey!
@divyak7453 жыл бұрын
Yes I feel the same about myself. I always question myself "am I toxic? Am I narc?" But then I think if I am aware enough to even ask myself this question then maybe I am not. But still I am always stuck between these two thoughts of mine. My childhood trauma was hidden all these time which resurfaced back in my relationship. Now I have to heal everything. Narc aren't always bad. They just want to be seen/heard bcoz in their past they weren't able to express themselves. They need to heal themselves.
@tRexArmXtender3 жыл бұрын
@@ivy.27 In my limited experience, narcissists that are unaware often desperately need others to give them the validation and depth of empathy that they are not capable of giving. Simply because they haven't learned how, and their coping mechanisms are focused on external supply. This can be deeply problematic for a person who has never learned that they have a right to receive unconditional love and then compensate by trying to fix the other person while suppressing their own needs. That was me btw. with my mother, and I copied the same pattern on the job, with friends and relationships. This can lead to toxic codependency where the narcissist never has to overcome his flaws and develop empathy, and the codependent never has to learn to develop healthy boundaries and live out their life like they would want to. He allows getting drained of all self-esteem and self-respect in the hope to get some inkling of true love. But as long both feed the cycle, nothing will change, and there are really no winners, in the long run, just two people going through the motions on autopilot. If this lifeway of living had a color, I would say it's gray.

Lately I've been thinking that my so called "best friend" has some of these traits. He always demanded other to do more for him than he was willing to do for others. In the last couple years he established this "what would you do without me?" vibe, because our friend group fell apart and we were the only ones left. He always acts like he's the most important person in town that doesn't want others to make him look bad. He always expected me to do whatever he wanted, and when I couldn't, than it meant I didn't care about him and life was shit. Like that time when he wanted to go out on Saturday, but I already had other plans. He recently broke up with his girlfriend and wanted to have a bit of fun. He told me "life always shits on me. Maybe I'll find some friends one day". That really pissed me off. Last year he did one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. I went on a couple dates with this girl. After a week, the topic comes out (while he was explaining to me what I MUST wear or post on Instagram in order to pick up girls, all with this arrogant "you must do as I say, because I know everything and you know Jack shit" vibe), he gets furious, says I ruined our friendship because we're best friends, and we must tell each other everything when we go out with, or bang girls. He stopped talking to me for a month. It was all well during winter. Then he disappeared a couple of months ago. Whenever I proposed something he was always tired from work. But the other day he told me that he is hanging out with this guy that we used to hang out with years ago, without even considering to invite me. I'm starting to be tired of his shenanigans. Sorry for the wot, I didn't know how to make it shorter, and I could have said a lot more

She literally raged for two weeks because I tried to help her with her nutritional deficiencies -- cracked teeth, cracked fingernails, hair loss, etc. To her, me offering her (free) nutritional supplements is an attack on her diet, which is "perfect" of course. It’s important to also remember there is a spectrum of narcissism. Someone may have some mild traits, which can make you feel crazy because you question if it’s really a problem. Take care everyone 🙏🙏🙏💗💗💗🦋🦋🦋

Uhh, every single human being is a little narcissistic. So maybe you're just blowing it out of proportion and cannot come up with a good reason that they're a narcissist, because they're actually not enough to be considered one in the first place. The ones that make you feel crazy are actually the ones with stronger traits as they know what they're doing. If you think the traits are mild, then you're only confused and feel crazy because you cannot find evidence, because they're not. As I said, every single human is a little bit narcissistic, we cannot self-diagnose anyone who we disagree with or don't have the knowledge to understand, that's toxic.

100% accurate from a point of view as MED student , but I feel these are the general traits of narcissists because this kind of personalities has so many dimensions that can't be calculable in couple of points ! Nice work for rising consciousness. You're always surprising me . Keep up Psych2go , I'm a big fan of you 👍

All of them matched !!!! I'm so glad I came across this . The best way to deal with them is being ruthlessly harsh with them and cut them out of your lives. I'm glad I did that. No matter what you do you can't change them till they themselves don't. So kick them out the moment you find them out.

Just cut out my dad from my live, cause I now realize he is a narrassict or at least demonstrates many traits. I still feel guilty, get panic attacks, and even have sucidal thoughts some days. But I know cutting him out was the best thing for me and my mental health. For anyone in this relationship please try and get out. I know first hand how hard it is, but it also has made me feel freer. I also know it's not easy to recognize it, so just don't let yourself be isolated and reach out.

Sometimes I wonder how much more I could have achieved in life if I didn't have the lingering stress from my narcissistic parents constantly weighing down on my psyche. At least I am good at writing and drawing. But I wanted to do much more, I wanted to play an instrument, I wanted to learn a language I wanted to learn more about science. But i was so anxious as a teen that I basically threw learning out the window. I guess I turned my research to psychological and social topics instead but I wish I would have studied biology, astronomy and chemistry more... Oh well, I'm only 18 there's always time. But I'm so depressed now, it's hard to learn anything... I wish I wasn't depressed...

Whatever you do… don’t give up!! Your really young, and you can definitely succeed! It takes bravery, and it also takes a lot of try’s before you can succeed. Don’t ever feel discouraged, and don’t let the voices of doubt get in your way. -always remember, if there’s a will, there’s a way. We all got to start somewhere. And lastly, always ask yourself when you are doubting yourself, “but what if I can?”

This video was one of the most accurate Video I’ve seen yet on Narcissists. I was with a classic one for 18 years, and he died of kidney cancer on Thanksgiving. He was verbally abusive, ultra-controlling, entitled-everything you listed in this video! It was like you were writing about him! As I said, I was with him 18 years, so it was sad seeing him die, but I don’t miss him, and I BP want to make sure I never end up with another narcissistic prick like him!

Basically, all they feel from the beginning but hide from you, they want you to feel later the same as well; like: - They are superior and entitled - They know everything, can everything about you (this they manage to convince you later by controlling you) - They are the only ones - You owe them every bit of your life - Everything is because of you what they do to you, etc...

The narcissists in my life could not stand that I moved away from them to develop other relationships outside the family. They gossiped about me in order to remove any love and companionship from family members. When I grew new relationships outside of family they were offended and gossiped worse. They wanted me to have only them and unable to have loving kind relationships. They loved to hurt me time after time without ever leaving them. They never at any time expressed sorrow over driving me away. I have no desire to ever see them again because they act the same way every time I have been with them. I am 68 years old now and love my life with my spiritual family, those who love Jesus Christ.

The relationships of any kind of a narcissists are all for their own convenience. They don't like others for who they are, they only like the things others do for them.

I grew up with someone who did many of these things. ! I grew up with a younger sibling who was JUST like this! And he victimized himself when I didn’t want to be around him. He takes no accountability for his actions. Yah he really thinks he’s that perfect. He grew up getting little correction for ANY behavior so it makes sense. One time he kept complaining about how I never congratulated him for any achievement he did which is disagree with. But even if I never did, he gaslights me by assuming I had bad intentions if I did things he didnt understand. Like he couldn’t freaking ASK first? Sheesh. Just because I’m related to him gives him NO right ti pressure me to do things. It suck’s cuz he wouldn’t do this to one of his friends. Yes it’s natural to desire certain things from family, but He exploits family members. I do NOT owe him any compliments for things he’s done. EVERYONE in my family has accomplished things but he’s the ONLY one who feels entitled to compliments. Not only is that arrogant but it’s narcissistic. It’s unbelievable he would sink THAT low and take no accountability. It’s sucks being related to someone like this. He even pressured me by bringing up things he did for me in the past. Another low move. Now I can’t even view his past actions as kind, because he later used them to manipulate me to give him what he wanted. What a spoiled brat. I’m definitely telling my parents
