▼About the Narita Gion Festival The Narita Gion Festival is a summer festival with a history of around 300 years that is held in cooperation with the Naritasan Gion-e, which prays to Dainichi Nyorai, the local Buddha of Acala, the principal image of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, enshrined in Okunoin, for bountiful harvests, prosperity for all people, and the fulfillment of wishes.
During the Gion Festival, the Narita Gion Festival will be held for three days on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of July 7th, 8th, and 9th, and the town of Narita will be filled with a festive atmosphere. Naritasan's mikoshi (portable shrine), gorgeous floats, and food stalls will parade along the approach to Naritasan accompanied by lively music and spirited shouts.
