Not as creative but something similar. When I gamed with all foodies as the DM (I am a foodie too), we had a similar contest. The contest was to make the best low-budget dish (real-world food). The game element was to collect exotic ingredients or use what the players had. My job was to translate the exotic ingredients into their real-world types and assign score multipliers based upon their exotic nature. The dishes were rated from 1-10. Their final score was the rating while applying the multiplier. The rating winners were (best to worst, all were great): beef stew, pizza, and the hot mess. The final score winners were (best to worst, again all were great): hot mess, beef stew, and the pizza. That led to all 4 of us competing to make the best chili for over a year because it was the only dish we all had pride in. Meh... not AD&D related but it was a foodie thing. The competition was inconclusive. We all had great and varied recipes. We could not find judges to make any of us a clear winner... even in our only shared best food despite how relatively basic it is. We had no other common areas we could compete in with all 4 of us. So, we gave that up and never again let our AD&D game bleed into our world. Dang, it's been over a decade and that year is still vivid in my mind. In my opinion, my favorite chili was the best. The peppers made it virtually orange, it was so thick it can be used as a chili sauce, most of the beans were ground like the meat, and it had a lot of heat but not so much that the flavor was lost. I used 4 kinds of hot peppers to make it complex... meh... I am ranting... and chili is far to simple to brag outside of the context.

depending on how it derailed it could make for a funny story, in my mind you want to either just slightly derail or just completely ignore the storyline, like getting a quest from Jerry the egg farmer and so they decide to get a job working for him, get promoted until they run the company and have majority vote on the board, and then grow the company until it's a household name all across the world.

We had a pie eating competition. Our Barbarian Goliath won the contest and was awarded with a magical item called the Pewter Pie Plate. Once a day he could use it and the pewter pie plate would generate one freshly baked pie. The DM at the time had a list of pies created for this item and the player rolls a D20 and gets the pie on the list. Needless to say we had pie almost everyday. Unless the Barbarian ate it all lol. Later on we would on occasion find these powerful gems that had a one time use of imbuing a already magic item to its fullest potential. We all ended up finding one throughout this campaign. I used my power gem on my plate mail (I played a fighter tank) it turned it from +1 armor to +3 armor with summoning. That’s how powerful these little beauties were. Our cleric used it on a wand of healing which gave all these awesome healing benefits. Our Wizard used it on his elven chainmail. And our Barbarian who’s only love was food, combat, and alcohol, used it on the god damn pewter pie plate 😂 it turned into the Pewter Pie Plate + and it could generate a D20 +1 pies per day. It was hilarious. He was happy with his greataxe that was passed down to him from his clan so why not use it on the pie plate LMAO. He got to roll multiple times on the pie generation list each day. It was great. It’s funny because when he got his power gem we were all like “Whoa!!!!” Are you going to use it on your axe? Maybe try some armor? Maybe use it on his belt of dwarven strength???!?! Our Barbarian looks at us and then the gem. And then we see his other hand hold up the empty pie plate and the Barbarian goes “I just want some more pie...” as he said it in a sad voice as he had already used the pie plates ability that day, and he pressed the gem into the plate and boom! Pewter pie plate + 😂

In 3.5, i had a spirit shaman character that, after combat, would offer 'after battle cookies'. It was just healing herbs and such baked into the cookies, and milky healing potions she created to go with them. She also had a small, awakened iron golem specially made as her cohort/follower, with a built-in oven and stove, and a tiny ice elemental that owed her a favor, that hung around in her bag of holding to keep her stuff frozen and fresh.

wish I could have my players go to a tavern, order food, and then surprise them with actual food.
@WorldWalker128
@WorldWalker128 4 жыл бұрын
Easy enough to do, really. The next time your players go into a tavern, ask if they order anything, and hand them a simple menu of 2 to 3 items on it based on things you've recently cooked and have in the fridge (or a jar). Anything they don't pick you can eat later yourself. Deviled Eggs are easy to make. Stuffed peppers take awhile to make, but oh-so worth it at the end! Half a baked or grilled steak and a buttered baked potato alongside with some chilled peas. Simple vegetable stew of carrots, celery, onion, and whatever with some grind-shaker peppercorn sprinkled on top. For drinks, a pitcher of iced tea, lemonade ("Made from odd yellow fruits Imported from the islands down the coast!"), purified water ("Good luck getting that from most places without a Caster using Prestidigitation!"), or maybe a simple can of beer poured into a mug. ("That's the best Gild-for-your-gold you'll get in this establishment, m'lords!") Be sure to make it clear out of character that events like this won't happen with every single tavern visit unless people start chipping in towards it, as it takes time and money from your own pocket to acquire and prep this stuff, but if they do chip in, that if they get involved in a feast that next time there will be a wider variety and dessert of the party's choice as well. Invite them to cook things of their own to bring. This means less work, money, and clean-up for you, but a chance for the players to bond both in and out of character, as well as to add a little more fun to the game as well. If you all have ideas but can't decide what you want to make, narrow items down to four per person, then roll a 1D4 and cook the item according to what the RNG Gods dictate. Actually....that sounds like a lot of fun...might have to talk my DM into it later....

I’m playing Pathfinder’s Kingmaker campaign converted to D&D 5e. My character is a Firbolg Shepherd Druid who is proficient in herbalism, alchemy and brewery. I decided to open an apple cider factory that will be our kingdom’s formal drink and will make us some extra gold. When deciding on the flavor of three distinct flavors (the everyday, simple flavor; the better, richer flavor; and the elite, high class flavor), I bought 15 different types of cider to the meeting and had everyone around the table taste them and help me decide on 3 that will go to mass production. Needless to say we played very little that session because everyone was hammered! 😂

Yes. I did do something like this. It was the third session of our LARP, for the game Changeling the Lost. We played it in the 2nd Sunday of October, in Canada. (This is important). The characters had spent the first three games trying to escape from Arcadia and the Hedge. They had the clothing on their backs, and that was it. Only 2 people had found food in the form of butter-tarts, which they promptly ate in front of everyone else. So when they got into the real world, the characters were famished. And the players were hungry too. You see, the 2nd Sunday of October is Canada's Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the place we were playing would not let us use the stove. So rather than a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, we had classic high tea for 12 people. All served in a real silver tea set, which can only be expected of the fae. There were no leftovers and no one left the game hungry - but there was enough room for turkey and all the trimmings later on.

Vampire game. My immersion attempt was a bit simpler but... They're investigating a Tzimisce's lair... this particular one has the body and mind of a small sociopathic child... so I brought out her toys... All of said toys were made from the flesh, bones, organs, and blood of humans and vampires that had disappeared recently... The Prince's ghoul had been turned into a set of Lincoln logs (which I'd sloppily painted red and white ... bone and blood) Several random humans had been used to make a Lego set (normal white legos covered in prop blood) A ball made out of a still sentient but now insane vampire (a toreador contact of thr cotorie's, the gangrel on the team recognized the scent and partially passed a frenzy check here... this was a bright red ball I left unaltered and described as looking completely normal until you touched it... when touched you would feel dozens of tiny pinpricks and feel yourself getting weaker as the vampire ball fed on you) Finally, they encountered a dice bag on a table... one I'd been using all session but kept one side of it hidden until now.. It was one of those bags meant to look like they were made out of a dragon's hide, with an eye sticking out on one side. I finally let the players see it properly... and tell the nos and gangrel players to run a frenzy check because this one was made with a familiar gangrel's flesh and beastly eye... The cotorie gangrel's child and the Nos's lover... Both fail their frenzy checks and start tearing away at everything and everyone in the room. First, they overpower the Tzimisce girl and dianlorize her, but that apparently didn't satisfy their Beasts... so they turned on the party... and we almost had a TPK from that. Luckily, the girl's much kinder Sire happened upon them and managed to knock them all out. End of session.

Putting together my first game to dm (have actually even played yet so maybe away) where the party will be making deliveries for a bar keep and each item will be represented, my friend who is a dm and is dming the first game I will play is helping my get the story fleshed out and making sure that I am not painting players in to corners

Our dm saves us from rolling if we can perform the action in real life. This mostly comes down to social e counters a d it is simply so good when players prepare speeches and really act out convincing a duke of a gnoll incursion instead of saying "I want to roll persuation" but this mechanic can also backfire hard, so people think before talking. One side effect was that the dm had to spice up the level of intricate political details because my lvl1 wizard was 3 chats away from sparking a coup.

Yeah, I rather fancy the dubious title of "frustrated amateur chef"... SO when there's a drink invented in-game, I like to think about how I'd actually accomplish that... I've created a very close approximation for elven bread, among others... It's always "approximately" when I bring something to the Table, but the group generally enjoys it... On other occasions, just for the additions to my repertoire, I've brought all manners of things from 7 cheese lasagnas, to homemade cordials and beers... Even served mini-quiches that I baked in recycled foil "pot pie" pans when they still put those out in foil. One of my favorites was when I settled the arguments the Group was holding on a longer term than just about any other. They could quite wrap their heads around the concept of "hard tack"... SO when I found a cookbook with the recipe (granted, from the 1920's) I had to do it... and of course an extra thick egg-drop soup to let them soak it so they could eat it without breaking teeth. (lolz) Finally, my group understood the legend of Civil War soldiers preferring to use the hard tack as ammunition in their cannons rather than try to eat it... Honestly, though... While Hard Tack isn't exactly my favorite form of bread (if you can call it bread?) BUT it's not bad at all... Obviously it depends on your preference regarding the soup or stew you soak it in, but should you ever get the chance (or find the recipe) you should give it a chance once in a while. ;o)

Well during one point my friend how i go to school with was playing as a dm for a few other people in our group. They play dnd after school in the same place as the club for gaming i am usually there to play smash bros ultimate so when my friend came over to me and asked if i could help with making a recipe for some reason i can't remember. Well after a quick skim throught the monster manual he gave me and 5 minutes of thinking i got it. Smoked black dragon tail with a broth made from red bell peper onion beef broth lemon and lime juice as well as pink salt and ground pepercorn. Mix these ingredients and you get a dish worthy to eaten by the gods as it's very flavor opens a portal to a place called the cooks hevan were spices and the most exotic meats vegitables and spices grow. One may enter a bring out one item and only once you gone into the dimesion and come you may never return as the dish is never as good as the first time you have eaten it.

Hers a story I have so me and my party which consists of a level 2 fighter and a bard also level 2 and a level 2 Druid and me a level 1 wizard we were playing saltmarsh. so we are exploring a abandoned house we find this guy in his underwear and we release him we found his cloths a couple of rooms back and we give it to him and we all start fighting to impress him. we aren’t a very good party. Later In The session we encounter a room full of bandits and scouts so we are lined up like a normal party the fighter taking on 2 guys at once and the Druid protecting our flanks while I am running straight into battle and casting burning hands and the bard is in the back with bob the guy we rescued earlier. So when it is bobs turn he pulls out the dagger the bard gave him pored poison on it and said “let me give this back to you.” And stabs the bard who proceeds to fail his con sac for poison. So the guy we just rescued stabbed the bard and no one Is around to help him because we are all up front fighting. So after this happens the Druid disengages and go to help his brothers pc leaving me with two people to kill with 1 spell slot left. Then the fighter kills his people and helps me kill mine and we all gang up on bob it took us like 3 rounds to kill him. since then we have called a betrayal pulling a bob. Skip a couple sessions we are all level 3 except me I’m level 2 we are on a ship and we free a sea elf and the first thing our bard says is “don’t pull a bob.” I know we just started the campaign but it was really funny and I hope this becomes a video

I once made my players drink a hags cup of tea. The hag prepped it to see visions of the truth and to drop the next plot hook. As everyone in game took their first sip and I went to the kitchen and grabbed cupcakes i dressed up to look like tea cups and saucers, filled with cinnamon apples. As they ate the dessert I explained the visions to them in a haggard voice.
