The spells you cast would have cost a bunch and I think you cast more spells then you should have been able to. If this is the case and you were playing fast and loose with rules. Then a party assassination would be warranted. Lucky the DM let u do all that stuff and all that setup. Good story though.

Today I did something worthy of praise. I play a kenku wizard lvl 1, warlock lvl 4, another party sees him as the week link even though he deals impressive damage for a level 5. You see thanks to my kenku's expert Forgery and mimicry the town has a new mayor after the tragic heart attack (caused by poison) of the previous mayor. This happened shortly after we destroyed a totem causing a curse on the town to be lifted (obviously making us heros), so when my kenku asked for a duel with our monk in front of the new mayor you bet the mayor offered to make it an event at the local arena. Two heros battling in the arena means money is definitely going to be moving around (bets, concessions, etc.) My character saw it as a friendly duel so he didnt dare to bet, and knowing his monk friend had a few eldritch blast scrolls from a previous deal for him to spot me some coin, he even offered to replenish any scrolls that was used if the monk won. Our fighter was in the crowd and called upon a mysterious man (who happens to be a god that loves eating food) to watch with him. As the battle went on the mysterious man ate some turkey legs and the fighter used them to interfere with the fight, hoping to earn a profit from my loss. These bones landed on pressure plates that released animals into the arena and one bone was to try a break my concentration on phantasmal force. First to be released was a Bear, then a Dire wolf. The bear missed me with a charge and tripped (nat 1) putting it between me and the wolf as the wolf entered combat. The wolf and the bear ended up battling, but meanwhile the monk who had already broke out of my phantasmal force was trying to fight me while a giant eagle was released at this point (I would like to note at the beginning of the fight I casted armor of agathys at 2nd level so the monk would take 10 cold damage everytime he landed a melee attack for the next hour). I mad the mistake of trying to communicate with the eagle as a fellow bird, which focused his attention to me (the animals never actually targeted the monk which actually helped my goal of proving my strength to the team because I had a bear, and an eagle try to kill me while the monk had time to run and play a lute (terribly I might add with a 6 for performance) when the bear was heading towards me after I fired an eldritch blast at it. With the help of the eagle he got me down to 4 hp but do to my hellish rebuke that he rolled a nat 1 against (our dm considers this a critical damage) I dealt over 20 fire damage to him and won the fight. It lasted an hour in total because he has an estus flask magical item that heals for an insane amount that he used twice before I decided that was enough and used chill touch to stop his healing capabilities.

As a Player of a Necromancer, i find it mildly Offensive that they though it would be That easy to kill one...[raises 29,999,991 Rune-Etched Skeletal Warriors] Let me teach you the PROPER way to do this....>D Aside: i had a player in a 3.5 game actually try to backstab Orpheus one time. Now i wasn't as...showy as our OP here. I waited 'till he was in the middle of a bunch of enemy redshirts and the Lair Boss, made certain he was down to a one hand count on life, then threw a fireball into the crowd. As his PC laid there dying, Orpheus went over to him and said quietly "First rule of Betrayal: Never talk about betraying a caster when their familiars around...Oh, don't worry about burial rites. I have a Different plan in mind...." he then turned the PC into a Skeletal Warrior and sent it to check for Traps in the rest of the area.

Lol. Such a simple plan, but it backfired so royally. He even let them make the first move. If they'd been honorable, and given him his fair share, they could have avoided getting totally destroyed. I imagine that if any single one of them had not taken part in the assassination, he would have had mercy on them. But the foolish mortals HAD to piss off the potential lich... All for a bit of coin. Pray tell, how much coin is your soul worth? Always a good question to keep in the back of your mind, as a vanquisher of evil. Or even as the progenitor of evil. Both sides of the line should always be mindful of the value that would be placed on their head. Lest they lose it to someone more prepared.
