My brother-in-law would love this. He would never tire watching the barges on the Columbia River.

These people with their children live on the canals. The kids were born on the boats. Its a way of life for them. You all should be ashamed for your comments

Most of the canals were built by hand before the invention of steam engines or mechanical diggers of any kind.

Grew up with it in Wigan, UK 🇬🇧 as a kid watching boats on the 37 locks from the top lock in Preston the last lock in Liverpool. Quaint, but a lot of work. Lots of kids fell into the canal and drowned, full of mud and trash. Don’t know if they cleaned it up from the 50’s til now. Built in the 1700’s and you can still see the rope marks on the stone from donkeys/ horses pulling barges. Now prefer to do house boating on Upper Mississippi River 🇺🇸 and let someone else do the work at the lock in Alma, Wisconsin and other locks along the way. Great fun with old technology, but it works.
@haroldreardon80706 жыл бұрын
Shame you didn't show the operation of the lock. Obviously the kids certainly know whats going on and I see no problem with them helping. Farm kids in the US drive tractors when they are 7 and 8 because THEY KNOW HOW .

This is interesting. So if you travel through these locks you open and close them yourself?
@pinkyman51555 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the public help or there are volunteer lock keepers who did the locks for you, they are a Godsend for solo boaters, it's hard work after about 3 locks doing it all yourself.

Water locks are examples of awesome engineering but holy crap it is so dangerous to let children jump around and play like that!!

Rooky error - The ground paddles should not be fully opened until the boat has risen halfway. Kids should not be allowed to run around the lock.
