I think I would be making myself a fine notched spreader, like the one you used to get with thixofix, to make sure you get an even coat,

Your right Adrian you can get notched trowels for it. I am doing mdf worktops next with colours in. Andy

look great. Could the defects be where you were cleaning with isopropyl but had an un-gloved hand touching the surface adding hand oils to it? Resin tops seem to be popular atm and nice to see you giving it a good effort

Looks like both of the bubbled bits had small faults in the wood below. Presumably, resin got in, and pushed out the air, or maybe the heat of the cure caused trapped air to expand, and force its way out. Pure guesswork, but you never know.
