Years ago I was on the London underground, District line. The train stopped at Earl's Court. Doors slid open, and two pigeons hopped aboard. These two birds pecked and shimmied their way along the carriage floor, around the legs of the passengers. I think they hopped off two stops later at South Kensington.

I've seen that on the Underground as well. Having watched a pigeon try five times to walk across the road before giving up and flying across, I came to the conclusion they are too lazy to fly if they can avoid it.

Obviously they were slightly upper class Pigeons! Getting off at South Kensington! Probably going to work their way around to Ascot. Yes I’ve seen pigeons do that on the underground. I couldn’t believe what they did. But the ones I saw were obviously working class as they got off at Greenford. (Oh dear, sorry people of Greenford) just a joke. But that’s what happened.

@@cruisingontheborder Hi you two. I am enjoying your posts on KZbin. Those pigeons on your boat were very naughty indeed! You have a bow-thruster..! Bloody good thing to have on a hull with the hydrodynamic shape of a floating railway-sleeper with the ends carved roughly pointy! When you move the tiller, you have to travel 50ft before it starts to turn. It's like driving one of those old dumpers with rear wheel steering, but with no brakes! And, possibly the same engine. If you've got to make a sharp, say, 90 degree turn with a strong crosswind in the mix, it must be a challenge! Regards, Nick.

The stretch of navigation around Zouch and up to Kegworth is very peaceful which is surprising! Because the area is very busy with major roads, rail line and the flight path to East Midland airport. I often walk the dog along the towpath there and is is such a lovely walk. It's a shame you did not have a more pleasant experience in Loughborough, the spot you had the trouble in is it is fair to say not the best place and you were wise to more on.

Another very interesting vlog, thank you. ❤ Re: Pigeons, you need a big water pistol, we were camping in France a few years ago, we all had a few trees over us and a French couple had a pump water pistol and a bucket of water to hand and every time a pigeon lands in the trees above their van, they would shoot water at them. It cleared them off without hurting them. Another couple had a decoy bird of prey mounted on the van, that kept them away too. Maybe a decoy on the roof somewhere. 😀

Talking about racing the canoers, way back in the 1970s when I was a child and teen Mom & Dad had a 17 foot aluminum canoe by Grumman, yes, the Navy Fighter, NASA Lunar Lander, and US Postal Service truck, Grumman, and though we could in no way sustain the pace as long as a motor could, my brother and I could apply our youthful energy and have that canoe really moving for a bit, enough that it would coast for a time after we stopped paddling. Those were fun times.

Cheating with a bow thruster? Nah, being safe is the thing. I’m too old now, but if I had a boat it would have Bow thrusters. On Sea or Canal. Excellent piece of kit. The pigeons are not hitching a ride!! I think that you know what they are up to. They are machines. 🤣🤣 They are feral homing pigeons. But didn’t go home. And now they are following the activity of their cousins,the wood pigeons. 😂😂 My Dad and I had Racing pigeons. I think most of them have tried walking back😁 But are now long gone. Upsetting when I was a kid to lose them. But hey that’s racing pigeons.

It's safer to have a bow thruster just in case, I can remember a true story of a sailor that was old school and was proud of the fact that he never used the engine, one night in a storm heading for the rocks he left it too late and sank.

when people say "Bow Thrusters are cheating" make me think I bet they wouldn`t give up their Hoovers or Fridges or Washing Machines and so on and so forth, all tech designed to make life easier, as are Bow Thrusters and Generators.

Hi Trevor, we don't have a washing machine on board, some do we prefer to use local facilities and hand wash. Sometimes bow thrusters are essential but we rarely use ours.Thanks for your comment.

Those who say a bow thruster is cheating, are those who wish they had one. I have one but it’s hardly been used, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use it if needed. I found drug dealers in our parking space in front of our garage years ago. When I rang the Police they said they had been under surveillance for awhile and it wouldn’t be long before they had enough to arrest them. Thing was, when they realised I wanted my parking space, they actually apologised and moved on! 🤪

You need a water pistol for the pigeons. As far as moorings are concerned, can you stop wherever you like, or do you have to use an official mooring place?
@cruisingontheborder
@cruisingontheborder Жыл бұрын
Hi there thanks for the comment and questions. Someone else made the great suggestion of a water pistol, maybe next time. There are official moorings which have a number of days restrictions on them, maybe in a busy location it will be 24 hrs but otherwise if there are no signs then its 2 weeks. Great isn't it.

Ah, except that is the mainline down to the basin. It's not a dead-end it's the basin beginning of the historical Canal built from Loughborough. The video shows joining at the junction. It's like when people talk about the arm from Hawkesbury down to Coventry basin. It's not an arm it is the main line.
