Bullying accusations are flying and things get a little bit crazy as we head to Mercia Marina in our narrowboats! We are travelling to the Crick Boat Show on Narrowboat One Day More with Paul and Anthony on Narrowboat Morning Star from KZbin channel ‪@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked‬. In this episode we leave Alrewas on the Trent & Mersey Canal, stop over for a night at Branston Water Park, and cruise to Mercia Marina, the place where our narrowboat life began! Plus there's a sneak peak inside the Russell Narrowboats Crick show boat in build!
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!
If you would like to support our channel you can buy us a coffee or the westies some treats here www.buymeacoff.... All donations are put back into our channel, we are currently saving up for new audio equipment.

Rosemary, my wife and I are 69. We became so interested in these narrowboat videos that we are heading over from the States in May to hire a boat for seven days and try this firsthand. Caroline and Pete have been so helpful with information. We will be on the lookout for their beautiful blue boat.

OK, the Snapchats were hilarious! This was another lovely cruise. It was neat to see the show boat before it was complete. It must have been very hard to buy your boat long distance. There are ways to communicate the distance which is good but nothing is like "in person". I think I would have lost a lot of sleep during the build. Anyway, the boat turned out great! ❤

I had to keep replaying them and watching them over and over when I was editing Dorothy, and laughing so much! Glad you enjoyed them too 😂 🥦. We were lucky that our boat builder was so fabulous during the build, and we had weekly video conference calls and he would show us the progress of the boat, plus sending multiple videos and photos. Here’s the video showing the build if you haven’t seen it yet kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJDIYamKbteYp5Ysi=ts80THbYCI0XZhrf 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard ❤ Thanks for the link. I don't recall seeing it so I'll check it out. It's amazing to watch a boat come together. It would take a really good and trusted builder to work from that distance. Thank goodness there are video calls, etc. Can you imagine doing it with the tech? 🙄

We had to put so much trust in their hands, but they couldn’t have made it any better for us! After the first deposit they wouldn’t let us pay any more money until we had seen the boat in real life, which wasn’t until 2 weeks before launch. It all worked out perfectly. I can’t imagine doing it without technology! I remember 25 years ago when Alex was born, and I was living in Indiana, we bought a huge digital camera with a 3” floppy disk that stored about 15 photos on it, so we could send photos back to grandparents! 😊

This is the only form of ‘bullying’ that is OK, but I’m sure Pete would disagree. It gives us so many laughs though, that I needed to share it with more people!! That was Pete as the broccoli 🥦 😂. We wondered the same about that wooden boat with no windows, whether someone actually lives on it. Although we met someone who lives on a lifeboat ‘pod’ with no windows and she has the hatch open to let light in she said. A bit dark when the weathers not favourable though thanks for watching and I’m glad we made you laugh a little 😂😊

Our well deck, with the cratch cover over the bow, is used as our garage to be honest, especially in winter as our coal and log store. We also have folding chairs in there, plus our folding bike locked to the bow and a little folding table. So it’s not really usable as a space to sit as I’ve seen on other boats. I'm still chuckling about your comments re Buc'cees last time. That franchise really is a wonder. So, do you know anything more about that strangely unique wooden boat? Did you ever worry about whether all three pups would be able to tolerate boat life (as opposed to possibly suffering motion sickness)? Take care and be well. I'm off to Greenway Plaza now. Leigh
@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard 6 ай бұрын
Hi Leigh! There are not many that can understand the Buc'cees references! I just wish I had had that idea about for a destination gas station though! I wish we did know more about that wooden boat, with no windows! The only one we worried a little about adapting to life on the water was Hamish, as he really didn't like being by the water in Texas. On the beach in Galveston he would pull away so Gard from the sea, not daring to even dip a toe in the water, yet when we took him to the beach here it was like he had totally forgotten his fear and was paddling through the waves without a care! So I think moving on to the water cured his fear! Have a wonderful Easter weekend 😊

Hi Craig, did you see the video of our boat being taken out of the water for the prop to be replaced a few weeks back? Here it is if you haven’t kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap3SXppvlMmMmK8si=c9e09O3vLRX49pJ0 Since we had the new propellor fitted it’s been ‘singing’ in tick over, which is the sound you can hear. It’s quite usual for a brand new prop to do this before it gets a big whack to it or something slightly damages the blade to make it not so perfect, or some fouling on the blade. When we get the boat out of the water for blacking we have been advised to run a file along one of the blade edges if it’s still doing it by then. Thanks for watching 😊

Hello, I love watching your videos! I have a question. I hope it’s not too boring for you to answer, but, I understand that you must vacate a mooring place after 2weeks; how far do you have to travel before you can take up a new mooring place, and, how long is it before you are allowed to return to a previous place where you moored your narrow boat?
@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard 6 ай бұрын
Hi Loo Loo! Nothing is a boring question, as we had so many of our own when we were watching multiple narrowboat vlogs when we were planning our new life aboard! We wanted to know EVERYTHING! As you know, mooring spots are 14 days unless they are signed otherwise, like 48 hours near city centres, or popular areas, and even sometimes 2 hours next to a canalside supermarket, like we have seen! The rules are that you have to move 20 miles within the year, but the 20 miles can’t be in one small area, so you can’t just go backwards and forwards the same 2 mile stretch for example. There’s no specific stipulation about how long you have to be away before you can return to the same area, but if you are on a 48 hour mooring and leave for one day then you typically can’t go back to the same spot or same stretch, as there are CRT spotters than come weekly or so and would note your boat number down as a sighting. You have to move on out of that same stretch of mooring. We have never had any issues with moving within the rules, and if there are genuine situations when you need to overstay, like when we both had Covid, or when my Dad was ill and we needed to be in the same area with easy access to our car. Then the CRT are normally very understanding as long as you let them know. Hope that all makes sense! Thanks for watching 😊

Another lovely video. I have to confess that I do spend a lot of time looking at the other canal boats to see if I spot my parents boat or any others that I may have come across. Went to Crick once. Fun tunnel to go through. Headed there from Braunston. A good few moons ago. Pretty tight squeeze through bridge 36 at 16 mins:26seconds. Not much of a drop at Tatenhill. Almost feels like wasted effort but then you know it had to be there to keep the canal level from one stretch to another. Cheers 🇬🇧🫶🏻🇦🇺
@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard 6 ай бұрын
You’re right Alex, that bridge was quite a tight fit! Braunston tunnel has that kink in it and you know that if you meet a boat coming the other way then it will be at the kink of course! We would much rather the one way manned Harecastle Tunnel where you know there’s no danger of that! Have you been through the stop lock at Hawkesbury Junction? That’s not even a foot drop, but was in place to mark the division between the two canal companies and charge a toll! What is the name of your parents boat? Have you checked if it’s still around on the CRT registration website? Glad you enjoyed the video!

There is a large area of Mercia Marina that is open to the public, where all the shops and restaurants are, and the visitor moorings and boat sales. Get to know a boater and they will take you through the gate to the private section of the marina! Those Snapchat filter faces made me laugh editing them 😂😂

I really enjoy seeing your vlogs, and your 2 dogs they look so content whilst your cruising. Maybe see you at Crick 2024?😊

That’s lovely to hear! Hamish and Poppy love their boat dog life, especially Poppy, sat up the back keeping a look out for us! We have our tickets bought and mooring booked for Crick 2024, so make sure you say hello if you see us! It’s lovely to put faces to names of our viewers. It’s one of our favourite weekends of the year 😊

We are there all 3 days, so I am sure you will see us on the Saturday somewhere! In the past we have taken the dogs over for a little while, and then back to the boat for a rest. Hamish really doesn’t like walking on the gravel around the marina and Poppy just gets SO excited to see everyone! 😊
