@@akaiichi3146 It has been said that multiple nations banded togheter to destroy Uzumaki clan because they were too powerful. I thing that is good enough reason to not be named Uzumaki. True reason is that in Japan last names aren´t given after the father but after the one who has more known clan/family. Uzumaki clan was well know and Namikaze clan doesn´t really exist so that´s the reason. There is no real reason why 3th wouldn´t tell Naruto except the one that he didn´t want to make him angry and hopeless bcs that could lead to Naruto letting the nine-tails out. Overall tho i still think he was just an asshole.

The reason Naruto grew up the way he did was because of Shimura Danzo. They actually explained this in a dialogue between Itachi and an ANBU member of the Aburame Clan. Danzo was the one who leaked the information about Minato's death and that Naruto became the Nine Tails' Jinchuriki, but his the information that Naruto is the son of the 4th, and that Minato was the one who sealed the Nine Tails inside of Naruto. He framed it in a way that made it appear that Naruto was responsible for the death of the 4th Hokage and some believe Naruto IS the nine tails. Third Hokage, after had his hands tied even being Hokage, Danzo got one over him so the very least he could do was what he ended up doing

The reason he kept the secret of Naruto being Minatos son under raps is because as you could imagine Minato had a lot of enemies and people who wanted revenge. So if he told naruto that and naruto being naruto ran his mouth and said that he would probably get kidnapped or murdered. And it's not like the third hokage didn't want to take care of naruto it was just that he was a extremely busy guy and tried to make up fir it by paying for a house and food for naruto. And as we can see from fillers we get to see that they were close
