Sasuke officially started thinking for himself because Itachi was the reason he struggled thinking for himself. really dig how Kishi wrote this change in character for Sasuke because sometimes in order to move forward you have to revisit the past to find the parts of you that you’ve lost.

If you rewatch the flashback of Tobirama during Danzo's death, you'll also see he was leading the Escort Unit; which was comprised of 2 Teams in a joint operation. Team Tobirama consisted of Hiruzen, and Homura and Koharu (the 2 other current Leaf Elders). And the 2nd Team consisted of Danzo, Kagami Uchiha, and Torifu Akamichi. Also, by timeframe, Kagami was most likely Shisui's grandfather or maybe Great Uncle.

I like how Sasuke's character is written. Before knowing the truth, he at least had a purpose, and Itachi to direct all his anger. But everything changed when he found out the truth. You are saying the only thing he had so far, his purpose, was meaningless all along, and what he actually had was a lie. At this point, he won't go like, "I will respect Itachi's wishes." Fuck no, he also has always been a victim too and had all the rights to say, "fuck this world." Then he reunites with Itachi, and now again, things are complicated. He doesn't yet understand why Itachi would go so far to protect this faulty, fragile system that the village is, the same village that is unaware, ignorant, and ungrateful of the sacrifices many have made. It definitely doesn't deserve to be saved, yet Itachi sees something in it that he just can't. Then he gets answers and a glimpse of what was before there was a village. His forefathers found a better place when there was nothing but war. Now he understands what this idea of a village signifies, and his brother was trying to protect the future or the dream that the village is. And then he goes, with a sad voice, "Ironic how the shinobi who understood you the most was an Uchiha." later to say, "I won't let Itachi's sacrifice become nothing. I will carry on his will."

In Madara vs 5 Kage, when Madara stabs Tsunade, he says that his visual prowess (Eternal mangekyou) was the only thing that let him see who was a clone and who was the original. And in their final battle, Hashirama only managed to stab madara from behind because the sharingan was deactivated from fatigue and exhaustion

14:08 Fugaku didn't just accept Itachi's decision just because his clan's reputation would have been preserved with this choice, considering he knew what his beloved sons would have to endure for the rest of their lives, and his entire clan was about to get slaughtered. The thing is, there really may not have been a way to turn this around. Otherwise, Itachi, Fugaku, Hiruzen would have at least given it a thought. Even something like Shisui's Kotomatsukami would have been only just so useful to delay the coup and not avert it. You can only do so much when things are this broken. Of course, Itachi would only have guilt and not pride in what he had to do, but irrespective of what he says out of guilt now, Deep down, every one of them-Hiruzen, Itachi, Danzo, Shisui, and even Fugak knew there was no other way.

The guy who was the son of the God of Shinobi Hashirama Senju and Mito Uzumaki who had both Kurama and Hundred Healings Seal, and who was also the father of the Fifth Hokage Tsunade. When Naruto first confronted Sasuke as Sasuke was trying to run away from the village he asked him if their friendship meant nothing to him. Sasuke said that wasn't the case and it was because they were friends that killing Naruto would have a purpose. So when Sasuke says he won't let the village "become nothing" I don't necessarily take that to mean that at this moment he's not at least considering destroying the leaf. Rather it's just him declaring he's against Madara's plan that would trap them in a dream world where whatever he decides about the village everything would be meaningless.
