I have only used the M nib in Narwhal and I absolutely love the smooth writing nib!

Very good comparison, Tom. I did find the Fine width a bit wide. I did swap the nib for a Goldspot EF nib and am very satisfied with its performance. I do wish Narwhal made an EF nib, though.

Narwhals are my FAVORITE pens period! They come so smooth out of the box and the flow of ink is amazing. Their pens have a nice weight and feels very durable and high end all without breaking the bank unlike some other resin based barrel pens we know, “cough cough wink wink”. Only thing I would change is the way they package them. The material on the outside feels premium but the inside is a just white foam piece with cutouts and gives a “cheap” vibe. Still their pens are just amazing.

That’s why they are affordable, in part, they are saving on fancy packaging which goes down the supply chain as savings to the consumers

Tom, we are grateful to you for your presentation and always insightful content. Yes, they're products for sale, but you bring to life with your spirit and poise. That studio of yours sure brings up that sweat off your brow; it must not be fun doing them vids on those temps. Thank you for everything you do every day.

Really great demo. I’ve only ever tried a Narwhal BB nib, and this seems pretty consistent with my experience. Side note: I want to track down whoever those (I’m guessing) ~16-17ish people who must’ve been going around requesting “reverse writing” samples from reviewers a decade or so ago, and put them all into a jail. I’m relatively certain that no-one has ever, before that or since, been particularly / genuinely concerned with fp reverse writing, but now every reviewer has to perfunctorily humor them. That’s it; we’ve had enough. They need to be locked up, for this and presumably other crimes. In a jail!

There are a couple of pens that I'll write with using the nib upside down - one of them being the architect. Yes, I know there's a small minority of people who would actually use a pen in such a way. Yet, we want to be inclusive to imagine all the ways that people might enjoy handwriting with a pen.

😂😂😂 jail indeed! I never would’ve thought to do such a thing with a fountain pen. Sometimes it helps get my pen going if it won’t write right away…but I always feel like I’m committing some sort of atrocity when I do it… 😅

Reverse writing is for those of us who use pens for art. I'd rather get a fine point that can reverse-write for extra fine details than ink up two pens. Not everyone merely writes with their ink pens.

This is an excellent review of nibs generally and narwhal specifically. I have basically and which seem to be inconsistent across the board (my thickest nib is a Jinhao and my finest seems to be a JOWO in a Conklin All American). It is great that you have got to the point (sic) of getting to the precise line widths of Narwhal nibs. I print rather than cursive so have just bought a Narwhal Stub. Thanks for going over this particular nib in detail, great that I found your video. I am more than looking forward to receiving it.

I usually like a fine nib, but I’ve come to prefer the medium on the Narwhals. The fine Narwhals are just a little too dry for me and the mediums seem to put down a fairly slim line. I have a few different models (the Nautilus with its portholes is my favourite, I think).

Thanks for the comparison, Tom! It was informative and useful. I’d love it if Narwhal would make a fine italic nib. The stub is too broad for me.

Pretty much sums up all my questions! 😅 Thank you! I think I will go with medium nib, as I want to draw and journal mainly, and Im new to fountain pens. I want one of the Peter pens 🤓

I have all four releases of the Narwhal Peter Pen. All are in fine, and if I could change anything it would be to ask that they offer an extra-fine or an extra-extra-fine. I much prefer very fine lines as my handwriting is very small and the finer the line the more my letters look like letters than just a line of ink with some squiggles on it.
@SeeleyAndears2 жыл бұрын
I have all 4 as well. I believe the first 3 were available in only fine and medium, so I got medium. The 4th came in more sizes, and I got... Broad? 1.1? Whichever was the largest. I'm hoping we get a 5th edition!

Thanks for the vid. I think you answered a lot of my concerns with my new BB Bronze Corydoras. My older Schuylkill’s in medium nibs, are as wide as the new BB nib. Somewhat disappointing because I was wanting an extra wide line width. And not too wet for a BB.
@GoldspotPens2 жыл бұрын
Glad I could answer your concerns. The older nibs had a thicker line width. Since they expanded their nib offerings, the F & M nibs are now more similar to the Jowo line widths.

I'd love to see Narwhal with an EF flex nib. I swapped out stock nib for flex on all 3 of my Narwhals. Fude would be another nice option.

I found the stub to be too smooth. I had to “rough” it up and took some fine grit to the nib ink channel to improve the flow. Works great now.
