[Cockpit View]
Space Shuttle Discovery Launch at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
July 4, 2006 headed the STS-121 crew toward the International Space Station.
The crew of Space Shuttle Discovery tested new equipment and procedures that increase the safety of space shuttles during the STS-121 mission to the International Space Station. It also performed maintenance on the space station and delivered supplies, equipment and a new Expedition 13 crew member to the station.
This mission carried on analysis of safety improvements that debuted on the Return to Flight mission, STS-114, and built upon those tests

People spent a lifetime of hard study and hard work to make something like this happen. And incredibly, in this day and age, 21st century, there are still idiots who insist the world is flat. What a diverse race we are.

I was at the space center before the shuttle program ended. One of the astronauts said that once they get to the shuttle, they are going over so many check lists and prepping for the liftoff that they are calm and don't have time to think about it. He said the bus ride out to the launch pad is when you are asking yourself "what the f___ was I thinking?" lol

Well on a bullet you would die due to acceleration, not the speed. Plenty of bullets are subsonic meaning a majority of fighter jets fly the same speed if not faster than some bullets. It's not that rediculous.

Infuriates me that we spend soo much on 'defense' when we could be investing in this. Think how much more advanced we could be but no killing each other is the priority
@HiHello-pl4tj

We dont even need to cut defense spending to fund the space program!!! I did some math today, in 2012 our government took in 2.4 trillion dollars in taxes. about 16 percent was put to defense, which funds alot of science and things like that so I have no problem with it, but something like 35 percent went to entitlements and what not, stuff our govt should have never promised people, then there are a few more big pieces of the pie. But if we took a small percentage out of everything our govt spends on, to make up 5 percent of 2.4 trillion, we would have 120 billion dollars for the space program, how great would that be? Gahh!!!! I am running for president someday, vote for me if you wanna see these things happen again!!!!

@Milkmans_Son
@Milkmans_Son 10 жыл бұрын
It has to be rough at the start, I mean seriously... After the main engines started, but while the solid rocket boosters were still bolted to the pad, the offset thrust from the Shuttle's three main engines caused the entire launch stack (boosters, tank and Shuttle) to pitch down about 2 m at cockpit level. This motion was called the "nod", or "twang" in NASA jargon. As the boosters flexed back into their original shape, the launch stack pitched slowly back upright. This took approximately six seconds. At the point when it was perfectly vertical, the boosters ignited and the launch commenced. (wikipedia)

Sooooooo these people are going 17,000mph, uh yeah, have you seen some real science, like what a person undergoes in just 5G’s? One 'G' means that your speed is growing (or shrinking) by about 22 miles per hour every second. Fighter pilots train to experience high G-forces, and they wear special flight suits to neutralize the forces on the body during high-G. If you or I go through 10 G's without training or a special pressure suit, then the speed is growing by almost 220 miles per hour every second, and in that kind of situation, the blood drains out of the brain and we pass out. These people seem to be experiencing, well, nothing... and they reach 17,000mph in about 10min, riiiiiight... what a joke. Please people look up videos of people experiencing 4-6G’s of force for real and realize how fake this is. No one even in special flight suits could survive the acceleration. The technology doesn’t exist. If they are going at a constant speed they are moving 22mph faster every second for 10min which is way beyond 8G’s which is about our limit. Whatever.
