Hard to believe that a suite that has been around for 50 years is really better than almost anything we have now. Even the prototypes have 50 years of development over these suites. But nobody wants to take responsibility for a new one.

@@bobbykiefer4306 You haven't quite grasped this. All things go wrong in time. The question is why have NASA and fellow agencies not improved the space suits as "new" technology appears. Now NASA is obliged to investigate the fault(s), find the problem, engineer a solution, test, improve, retest and so on. Then once improved start manufacturing the new version. All well and good but until the new suits are sent out to the ISS then the ISS crew are relying on the "old design" suits. No idea how long the training is for wearing a spacesuit but would guess it's not something you can master in five minutes.

NASA's funding dipped down after the Apollo missions as people have lost interest in space today. Suits cost around a hundred million and NASA only has a few of them being maintained. Training and testing with newly made suits would take lots of time on earth and in space, even for all inside the ISS. Nobody can blame them for using old suits.

The only parts of the EMU that has its heritage from Apollo is the helmet, "Snoopy Cap" (used for communication), liquid cooling and ventilation garment, and gloves. Everything else on the EMU was designed by Hamilton Sundstrand and ILC Dover to be reusable and adjustable. Thing is that the Shuttle/ISS EMU is nearly 50 years old, and the Soviet/Russian "Orlan" spacesuit, despite improvements over the years, is in of itself a design going back to the cancelled Soviet Moonshot.

He has never been to space. All spacewalks are filmed in Texas at the Johnson Space Center Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. Inside of an enormous very deep pool resides the real ISS. Any footage you see of astronauts "floating in zero g" is footage from the inside of massive commercial jets that do parabolic maneuvers in the air to simulate zero gravity. Some of these planes even look like the inside of the ISS. There was an astronaut that had an accident in space, his helmet filled with water during a space walk. Right after NASA scrapped spacewalks for years. Guess they had to do damage control and try to explain away how this is possible in the vacuum of space.

@mauricegold9377
@mauricegold9377 Жыл бұрын
Er, no. Just in case you weren't paying attention, these suits are designed to work in the vacuum of space, in orbit with the ISS. They have lots of layers, to help provide protection from micrometeorites, and to help with mobility of hands and arms to wield tools during space walks, and to keep the intense sunlight from hearing the suit too much, during the time the ISS is in daylight, and keeping the astronaut warm and comfortable when the ISS is in the Earth's shadow. But the astronauts bodies generate lots of heat, so the suits are cooled with water in a vest with lots of water-channels. This water is then evaporated to space, after circulating around their bodies, and going through hear-exchangers in the back-pack, which helps keep the astronaut comfortable for hours. But when a leak develops in micro-gravity gravity, the water-drops just float around inside the suit, and if they are in the helmet, there is a grave danger of the astronaut breathing them in and drowning. Obviously they can't take the helmet off. These suits are an old design, and used a lot. There is an urgent need for new ones, but all the new designs so far have been rejected. NASA has wasted 420 million dollars on these new designs which have been rejected. New ones will be needed in 2025-26 for the Artemis moon-landing missions anyway. Apakah lebih jelas sekarang?

It's pathetic that you think they filmed and edited thousands of hours of footage with green screen or CGI, hiding all the water and bubbles in order to fool billions of people for decades, but then decide to tell everyone about the water leaking into the suit. Don't you see how nonsensical that would be?

Was the US moon landing in 1969 fake? NASA 2024 moon landing jeopardised because space suits aren't ready NASA spent $420 million on space suit development since 2007, Current suits worn by astronauts on the International Space Station are restrictive, haven’t been upgraded in decades, and aren’t designed for long walks on the Moon.
