Hope Virgin Galactic get to establish an Italian base. Although just a sub-orbital service, any enhancement to space capabilities in Europe is welcome.

In my opinion NASA has not clearly justified this additional 6 month delay on Artemis 2 flight. It seems due to Orion environmental system but there was no identification of the exact issue, nevertheless it is now a Lockheed Martin responsibility if much more funds are expended.

Why, when SpaceX is producing Starships at ludicrous speed, does SLS seem so ridiculously primitive at this point? How long in 2024 should it really take to manufacture a fully-expendable launch vehicle? The time between Starship flight 1 stack and flight 2 stack about 5 months. The time between SLS flight 1 stack and flight 2 stack about... coming up on 4 years? SLS is an abusive waste of our hard-earned tax dollars and needs to be canceled.
@cube2fox3 сағат бұрын
Jared Isaacman, the next NASA administrator, probably has a similar opinion.
@MrGoesBoom3 сағат бұрын
Yeah, the only reason SLS is still alive is the people in charge up on Capital Hill like the amount of jobs and money it brings to their states, and themselves. I mean, part of the point of SLS is that it would use mature proven tech from the Space Shuttle to cut down on cost and development time. And yet it was several years and dozens of billions of dollars over cost by the time of it's first launch. I don't want a monopoly, because monopoly's are overall bad, but SpaceX has proven to be the future while the old launch providers are still running things like they have for the last 50 years....slow, overbudget, and behind schedule with little to no innovation.
@JeroenvdWal43 минут бұрын
Its not that simple. SLS is developed for human transport, starship is a big space lorrie. Starship still has Heatshield problems on LOW EARTH orbit re-entry. Imagine that thing comming in hot from the moon. There needs to be more things to be factored in to say SLS can stop becauce its not reusable
@davidmclean35731 минут бұрын
@@JeroenvdWal I suspect a solution using Dragon to get to orbit on falcon and starship for going to and from the moon and keeping that ship in orbit for reuse would be more likely than using starship for everything. Dragon is well proven for getting to and from orbit and would allow for a relatively fast development if Starship is used only for Lunar operations in this scenario.
@theOrionsarms18 минут бұрын
The time from when a specific starship begin to get manufactured and it is launched is longer than 5 months(more like a year) , also SLS can be stacked only when NASA decide launching time, but in principle you are right SLS stacking is a slow and difficult process relative to starship.

You said that Stoke was the third FFSC engine tested (Raptor being the second), I wanted to look up the first and found that Wikipedia actually lists 2 other FFSC engines as succesfully tested: RD-270 and Integrated Powerhead Demonstrator. Which one are you not counting and why?
@ale1312963 сағат бұрын
The powerhead one, it was not a complete engine
@TheNheg662 сағат бұрын
It's kinda in the name itself - powerhead demonstrator. It was just a prototype of a FFSC powerhead used to demonstrate FFSC feasability, not an actual rocket engine.

What are those panels falling off all chinese rockets?
@SubzeroSpartan79 сағат бұрын
Pretty sure they are insulation panels because N2O4 needs to be kept cold.
@adammurdoch17089 сағат бұрын
They are lightweight insulation panels for thermal control they let them fall off on disposable rockets as keeping them firmly affixed is added weight and they are only needed on the pad. reusable rockets don't use them as it would add too refurbishment time and complexity.

@icrewheloso85887 сағат бұрын
@ale131296 they lack quality control in most things new. My son inlaw is a quality engineer for Falcon. It is very funny listening to him about certain things. Starship is very far from what I would consider good quality control being from aviation myself. It is a very different environment compared to Avaition. I wish I could talk more about things but it is not aloud. It is very frustrating not to be able to. But he trust that I won't so I don't. Musk is a guy who expects things to be right. So you either do it right or leave.
