Fun fact: when you create a paint scheme here, you can choose if you want to have many decals on your car or none. However, the decals features in your created car are ALL FROM NASCAR 08, which means, that the Nascar Nextel logo and the Nascar Busch Series logo are still there

NASCAR 08 was way better than 09 on the PS2. They made the COT so slow that you would be full throttle racing on intermediates. You couldn't pass on the outside if you were about 5th place. Even then, N09 was not that great on the Xbox 360 and PS3 but I do remember the online part was fun.

It's confusing that the Online part was fun when the driving model for 08 and 09 was terrible on PS3 and XBox and the cars are like bricks. Pfft

Daytona and Talladega online in NASCAR 09 was some of the best/most fun online racing I've ever had in a NASCAR game outside of NR2003. You could give proper bump drafts and actually tandem at times if you were skilled enough.

PS3 is where I was. Remember having to get the performance points to build up the car? 46.0's were pole then. After the patch, pole at daytona was a 48.0 and perforating points meant nothing online.

There's actually a really funny glitch in this game. If you turn off unlimited fuel/tires, set the race length to 8% and go to Texas Infield, the AI never pits and runs out of gas before the pit stop. Guaranteeing you an easy win.

Wow! You’re right! They all ran out of fuel at the start of lap 13! Crazy! EDIT: Turns out this happens regardless of the race length, cuz I just had the same thing happen at 12%. After further testing, it turns out that they ONLY pit under caution. If a caution comes out at the right time, *EVERYONE WILL PIT.* Even so, however, The AI racers will NEVER pit under green on Texas Infield and still run out of fuel unless the yellow flag is thrown.

It wasn't worth it to unlock fantasy drivers in this game. You had to earn 4 medallions, unlock Speedway Blvd, master that track, then spend more medallions to unlock the Daytona Infield, MASTER THAT TRACK, and then SPEND MORE MEDALLIONS to unlock fantasy drivers. I think some of the tasks to master a track were to win the race, lap 5 cars, and win a race without using rewind.

Basically, this is a poor man's version of this game if you could not afford the current gen consoles at the time. I only had the PS3 version so I never got cursed by this version. And yeah the lack of Manufacturers was a big flaw but at least you could fix that on the 360 and PS3 version via the Paint booth (which I spent way more time in then actually racing, even when I did league racing). PS2 owners though, yeah naw. From what I remember reading, the team that did the games prior to 08 (05, 06 and 07) were moved over to the PS3 and 360 version while another internal studio handled the PS2 version (and from the looks of things, basically recycled the assets that were then since 2005 save for the COT and none manufacterer badged Nationwide cars).

Something I also don’t understand with the ps2 version of the game. It had 2 different covers. One with Jeff on it and another with Elliot Sadler. I remember owning the Sadler one as a kid.

I will say that the family play is a fond memory for me, it was more than just all assists on, it made it to where literally your grandma could play, I have many fond memories of my friends actually playing a nascar game with me and having success. Other than that, game was just screaming get a ps3 lol

NASCAR09 on the 360 is legit the best racing and community I've ever been a part of. I still have all my templates, base schemes and finished schemes on an external b/c I treasure this game. I once spent 12 hrs, 12!, just to perfect a setup at Homestead. The speed comp truck races at Dega are something to behold. God, I love this game 😢

I played this game on PS2 my whole childhood and I never had performance issues and could absolutely do full length races in career mode. With cautions too. I assume it has something to do with running it on an emulator. Everything else you said about the game is true though

The damage model is pretty awesome in this game. I really love how debris stays on the track and you can run it over and damage your car. very realistic
