I honestly think Steven had talent, he would be running pretty well sometimes (consideringthe his team was midpack) only to make a boneheaded or over aggresive move and crash, had he learned to race cleanly and more patiently he may have had better results He was also incredibly young, he left the sport when he was what 23 years old? It would’ve been interesting to see if MAYBE he could develop into a decent Truck/Xfinity driver
@Austin_Windric3 жыл бұрын
Townley had talent, too. Impressive saves and even outperforming his given equipment. He also won a race, albeit with fuel-milage. However, it does take talent to get a fuel-milage win, albeit not much. He was also a criminally underrated Superspeedway racer, having ARCA wins at those tracks and had great Truck Series runs at those tracks. I can't wait until I get bashed for typing this.

There was talent, the problem was it couldn’t be fully corralled, be it because Rusty’s equipment wasn’t top notch with Cup backing, or all those Buschwhackers coming in to take half the grid up, and Steven felt he needed to do more than the equipment could handle.

Spencer was far from a title contender but he never drove for “two of the best teams in NASCAR”. He drove for Junior Johnson right as they started their decline, Travis Carter who was a great crew chief but a mediocre team owner, I’ll give you that year at Ganassi where Sterling had a great year while the highlight of Spencer’s year was his feud with Kurt Busch, but after he got fired from there he only drove for Jimmy Smith and then did a little Truck series before retiring. So he really only had one season (2002) in top notch equipment in his Cup career.
