I feel it is an improvement upon the previous game, but it is still riding on NASCAR instead of improving the racing quality. It also feels like they might repeat last game and are likely currently working on the 2018 schedule update followed by abandoning it for next years game (as they have indicated wanting to push out an annual game).

NASCAR 1996 only lets you damage like six quadrants of the car to three severities and yet seems to have the more accurate damage model. And you actually get to drive your car in the pits and on caution laps, a long-dead feature in NASCAR games.
