One that never gets mentioned is the 2001 Food City 500 when Elliott Sadler pitted with 152 laps to go and went on to win by staying out on old tires to earn his first Cup win and the Wood Brothers first win at Bristol

Jeff Burton pitting on the last lap of segment 1 of the Winston was definitely the greatest strategy call in NASCAR history IMO

It amazes me that no one in the booth figured out the strategy until the final lap. When everyone else had pitted and Burton showed no signs of slowing I suspected what they were doing. Such a great moment in the sport that only works once before rules changes makes it obsolete.

It's one of those moments where I remember exactly where I was when I watched it. I would've been 9 years old and at my grandparents house watching it in their living room.

I asked Cliff Daniels in 2021 what one of his biggest rules for strategy during a race. He said never base your race on what somebody else is doing. Don’t pit just because somebody else is pitting. Do what’s going to be best for you.

Gateway 2019 for the trucks. Ross was trying to get into the top 30 in points and be eligible for the playoffs after declaring for truck points midway through the season. His crew chief went fuel only on the final stop of the race and Ross got the win

Burton lost his clutch. He didn’t get disqualified. His pit box was before the start/finish line. He took advantage of the rules and only lost this race because he lost a clutch.

As a Denny Hamlin fan, I still can't believe that late race pit strategy worked wgen he passed William Byron with 4 to 5 laps left, and hold of Kevin Harvick

Another Notable mention Kyle busch 2005 easy care vehicle contracts 200 pits and grabs four tires restarts like 8th and wins the race because of four sticker tires as everyone else had worn out tires!

Jeff Burton did not win the stage. Johnson actually beat him to the line for the stage bonus. But it did give him track position as he was outside the top 10 at the start of the cycle.
