Caribbean queen as the back ground music for the starting lineup is a great vibe for the race.

Amazed this actually made it into this upload given how nearly every other race with licensed music has it removed from the Nascar Classics site and KZbin page.

At the 1hr and 13min Mark a man slinks under Niel Bonnets car to try and fix a gear linkage. No jack stand, and did it while the Jackman was still pumping. Insane.

Harry Rainer talked Waddell Wilson into switching to a Ford in 1985 and even though Cale won two races the rest of them was disastrous. Ford claimed they wanted Waddell to develop the Windsor engine to make it as good as the Cleveland which was ridiculous. Waddell wanted to stick with the Chevrolet because of the success they’d had with it. People were talking about the chopped rear window of the GM cars but Waddell knew it was the air going up under the car that mattered. Smokey Yunick once said everybody talks about how much Waddell knows about engines and he does but it’s amazing how much that man knows about aerodynamics. Junior Johnson went to Ford in 1989 he said “after all I done for them people (Chevrolet) and they do me like that giving all their attention to Rick Hendrick because he had a lot of money. Junior was the one responsible for getting Chevrolet back in racing in the early seventies. Now I’m a Chevrolet guy all the way and no I didn’t like Dale Earnhardt at all but I’m just talking about what I’ve read.

Thinking about what Dale Jr. said about bringing back the clash to Daytona. Nobody will ever probably win the triple again cause the clash is not on the same week as the twin races and the 500. I wish nascar pay attention to their history cause they seem to forget it.

I think one of these days they will bring it back. Just like the brought Darlington back. There just has to be a purpose for doing so. Don't give up hope, once NASCAR gets hit in the wallet, where it hurts they will move it back to Daytona after they have ended these silly experiments.

Ford never dominated in the 80s. The best they ever did in the 1980's was EQUAL the Chevrolet's in wins in 1985. Chevrolet won the manufacturers championship, the Winston Cup championship and the lions share of the races for the entire decade.
@Nasty-Canasta12 күн бұрын
@@shawdowsanddust5301People always say it was the Ford(s). Like Ford as a whole dominated. Bill won 11 races in 85 and Ford won 14 total. Any success Ford had in the 80s was largely all Bill Elliot. The "sloped rear window" couldn't do anything with GM in 83 or 84. Bill, Dan, and Ernie had figured out something on the 9 to make it as fast as it was. But it wasn't because of "Ford"

At 57:03 the Petty crash.. slow down the incar replay and look at how much movement there was inside…. It didn’t look that bad on the track but inside the car it put Petty in the passenger seat.

Bodine was always my guy. He was a great driver who had a hard time winning. I’m pretty sure he won this race though - can’t wait to see (refuse to fast forward or check Wikipedia). Nobody went harder than Dale though!!

The sloped back window wasn't available on the 86 Monte Carlo. GM went crying to Bill France because the GM teams were getting their ass kicked so NAACAR allowed them to run the sloped rear window.
@shawdowsanddust53015 ай бұрын
The 1986 Aerocoupe was absolutely available to buy to the public. They are rare, but they made 200 of them. And yes, that sloped glass monte kicked the tbirds ass and STILL making ford fans cry 40 years later.

@@shawdowsanddust5301I never get how Ford guys like to talk about how great the Elliotts were, but they could overcome those "bandaid rear window GM cars". I guess Dan and Ernie weren't as good as the ford guys said they were

First year of that areo coupe which was nuthing more than a aerodynamic bandaid to cover up a piss pour design by gm an make them competive.that car should never been allowed in a cup race
@shawdowsanddust53015 ай бұрын
Funny, all Ford could muster against that "piss poor" design was equaling Chevys win total in 1985. Chevy did their homework and developed the Aerocoupe and smoked Ford's ass. Oh well, get faster or cry about it. (Ford cries about it)

**FACTS BEFORE the 1986 DAYTONA 500** · Despite 11 wins, Bill Elliott lost the Cup Series title to Darrell Waltrip due to many mechanical problems including a broken transmission at the beginning of the final race. It was DW’s 3rd title. Ken Schrader was easily the best rookie finishing 16th in points. · Watkins Glen joined the schedule for the first time in almost 30 years with a Summer spot right after the Talladega 500. · Richard Petty went back to the family team, Petty’s 1985 ride with Curb-Agajanian went to Ron Bouchard while Ron’s seat went to Morgan Shepherd. Meanwhile, Tim Richmond joined Geoff Bodine in Hendrick Motorsports and Rusty Wallace, best rookie in 1984, went to Blue Max. · Dale Earnhardt led most of the Clash despite strong challenges by both Geoff Bodine and Bill Elliott at different points of the race. The only incident of the race was Bodine himself losing the rear early on in T3. The GM #3 car used questionable defensive maneuvers during the final lap to stop the Ford #9 from flying by. · Bill Elliott was the only man above 205mph in qualifying with Geoff Bodine 2nd. · In Duel #1, Elliott dominated but he was never able to completely pull away like in 1985. There were 3 cautions but all were caused by spectacular engine failures with 1 involving Ken Schrader. · Earnhardt completely dominated Duel #2 with ease, being much faster than even Bodine. There were 2 single-car crashes, one involving Tim Richmond. Jody Ridley got a mechanical DNF and was at risk of not making the field. · There were quite a few interesting non-qualifiers including Davey Allison, Mike Waltrip, Alan Kulwicki and JD McDuffie. Steve Park’s dad Bob and Corey LaJoie’s dad Randy also didn’t make the field.
