I need to catch up on your videos because I haven’t seen you talk about ANY of these. All I need is the perfect 4-bay NAS that can connect to it via a mobile app, act as my endless content farm, and has 10GBe 😅 I really hope other solutions start supporting 10GBe soon

BTW - those seagulls get around- it’s surprising to see seagulls in the middle of the Pacific- when there is nothing but ocean around. Didn’t even hitch a ride on the cruise ship 😊.

As a note, I did read that The Lincstation N1 is only providing a 1-year Unraid license ever since Unraid changed their price model.

Has there still been no updates on the 1825+ ? I've been holding off for a while now, in the hopes of them releasing it, if I don't hear anything by the time Black Friday Sale comes, they may lose out on my money....

Depends what you expect :D. I just got QNAP TS-664 as my backup NAS (to backup primary NAS to) :D. Couldn't find anything cheaper with the same set of features. I can even install QuTS Hero on it :D, but I have chosen normal QTS to be able to grow the RAID device with additional drives in the future :D. Paid ~$600.

Does the UNAS Pro have something like Synology’s SHR for storage pools where you can add more drives on the fly to an existing storage pool?

No worries. It's a genuinely solid product. Side question (as it has been raised here in the comments previously), is the UnRAID licence included with the device a lifetime licence, or a 1yr update licence? (UnRAID changed their subscription tiers in the time between your product launch and now). Cheers!

Hi, you mentioned that everyone should turn off SSH on their Linux based Nas due to security issues. Is this problem now fixed? or should we still keep it switched off. Thank you.

Only turn it on when you need it, and then turn it off, for the vast majority of the time. Why have a very visible and sometimes weak front door, when you don't need to.

What is the UK equivalent of the "buck?" I thought it amusing to hear about "bang for the buck" followed by a device priced in pounds.

I have router with 4 Ethernet ports But i need 6 Ethernet port now My question is i have a 4 port switch It seems slow am using 4 Ethernet port on router and 2 on the switch Or show get an 8 port switch and not use the Ethernet port on the router Would that make a difference

the speed of your config depends on several factors. supported speed of client(PC, NAS), router and switch. Most common for consumer are 1Gbit, 2.5Gbit, 5Gbit, 10Gbit. Transferspeed is limited to the lowest common denominator. So if data goes from one client through your router than through your switch to another client and your router is limited to 1Gbit speed that will be the bottleneck even if other devices support higher transferspeed. Keep in mind that u also need fast clients to achieve higher speeds (5Gbit+) meaning SSD, NVMe or HDDs in a RAID configuration.

@@dwight2310 should i stop using the ethernet ports on the router and us only the switch ports
@dwight2310
@dwight2310 17 күн бұрын
@@packard82uk i cannot answer that. i dont know what devices you are using. based on my previous answer you should research what the limitations of your devices are and eliminate any bottleneck to get higher speeds. That could in fact mean to get a bigger switch but there could be more limitations in your setup preventing you from reaching higher speeds.

I'll throw one more small item into the mix. I was making up some new ethernet cables a few months ago and found that some of the cables then in use were old Cat 5, not Cat 5e and therefore technically much smaller bandwidth and presumably slower. The short distance of patch cords may not may much difference but, for a few bucks, it may be a cheap way to check. So, look at the spec's of every link in the chain.

Bollocks. The best NAS is a used Haswell or later system with maxxed out RAM for free or next to nothing. Spend your money on drives and connectivity. These stupid appliances are terrible value and are usually poor quality, and reliability, with costly slow warranty (shipping). Pick the NAS distro of your choice; they are all better than the proprietary offerings.

Have you lost your sodding mind?!?! :D The UniFi NAS Pro isn't a nas, outside of just a headless Linux server with a nice GUI and SMB shares only. No iSCSI, no NFS, etc etc etc. Its a NAS simply because it has disks, a network connection and a SAMBA share. Its not a NAS in any sense of the pro-sumer, or professional NAS user.
@judmorris3386
@judmorris3386 17 күн бұрын
Agree that it's not really pro-sumer or professional, but I think that's why it's in the best value category. For $500 7 drives and a 10g ethernet port is all a small business might realistically need. A cheap rack mount nas (at least where I live) is a 4 bay qnap or terra master with 1 or 2.5 g networking for the same price. In that aspect it's a decent deal if all you need is a samba share or barebones network attached storage like you say.
