I've read about Myra Hess and the risky wartime concerts. She was an excellent pianist and a very generous, patriotic person. Thanks so much for sharing this video!👏🎹🎶

Great stuff. Let's celebrate all those artists who risked life and limb to keep up morale.

Iit was a government push to have small string groups to play in factories as workers made parts and also in the factory canteens as the workers ate.

Even those few minutes were profoundly moving. Myra Hess is a pianist new to me. I will make it a priority to look for her recordings. Extraordinary. My father served on a U.S. Navy destroyer as part of the Atlantic war accompanying supply ships to British ports and spent considerable time in England. It was a country he had great affection for. I noted the Queen Mother sitting next to Kenneth Clark of CIVILIZATION fame. The British people went through so much and worked so hard and fought with such determination. My heartfelt thanks to Wigmore Hall and company and of course to the British people of that era.

@@nigelhess6751 Thank you so much. I checked on AmazonUS and found this for $902.00! 1 copy New, 1 Used. Obviously private sellers. Well at least we know her value -- which is high. But we knew that musically already. It appears to be available only on mp3. This was released in 2013, a generation ago by music company standards I'm sorry to say, at lease in America. I will continue to look for recordings. CDs were that bridge from analog to digital which, unfortunately has been raised. By the way, are you related to the great musician?

She did. Remembered for her transcription of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach. But today...The police are busy: "Christian pastor arrested for making 'homophobic statements' after preaching from the Bible, says he was treated 'shamefully' - and was 'doing what my job description says'": John Sherwood, 71, was led away in handcuffs, questioned in a police station and held overnight after being accused of making homophobic comments outside Uxbridge Station in west London. 2. TIMOTHY 3: "12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."

With all due respect to the excellent Nash and to the Wigmore, I would far rather hear/see more of the original - if possible - than a modern series riding on the back of the fame of Dame Myra. That said, I do not suppose I will be able to resist ...
