Bloody hell fishing has changed so much since I were a lad :O) There's no way in the 70's that anyone would throw £40 quids worth of bait into a lake to catch one fish ! It's all so bloody commercial and consumerist now... what with all the Shimano reels and camo gore-tex suits at God knows how much. I think kids are missing out on something now... parents just buy them whatever they want and they're off. If I wanted more floats... I made them myself. If I wanted a new rod, I'd save up for the components and build it myself. If I wanted a bite indicator.. I'd make one out of a wine cork and a hair clip... painted with luminous paint for night fishing and there's great satisfaction to be had from that !! Now they just go buy the latest Fox indicators.. again at silly money and throw em away and buy more if they break. As for bait... you got imaginative and I don't believe for one minute that this guy stood any more chance of catching that one carp with his super duper high protein boilies than he would a ball of bread or luncheon meat.

I spoke to a chap yesterday that was sponsored, gets a much free bait as he likes. Many of us have to make 10/20 kilo last a season. With good bait thats still £180 a year.

And that's why I use pellets just as productive and catch big carp not as expensive as boilies 🎣

Really enjoyed this video. It would have been interesting to learn about Jimmy's baiting tactics. How many freebies did he put round his pop-ups? Why did he use a Ronnie Rig in preference to other rigs?

You can get started with secondhand stuff mate, check gumtree and ebay local pickup ads. Also angling direct do some really cheap stuff. Although different rigs help in weedy and silty venues you will still catch on rigs made with basic components.

You can fish for carp for next to nothing. Rod and reel with some heavy line, sweet corn, Wheatie balls, bread, etc... This is glamourised carp fishing.

The fish don't care how much you've wasted on pointless crap, I used a £30 rod and real and some cheap spam for bait, I stopped fishing because I got bored catching fish every day.
