Very Cool! Love the different upbeat vibe to this tune - almost like Dixieland Jazz and the instrumentals were great. It's very different than when I grew up playing blues guitar and with my musical mentor and friend, Mr. Lesley Riddle. We played it more in the "Piedmont" style and a great example of this is Larry Campbell playing Deep Elem acoustically on the Americana Music Awards with Levon Helm on mandolin - that's another great version and more "original/roots" - It's all good!

Viewed maybe forty times, played along on banjo(you tube fantastic teaching tool). Huge keyboard followed by solid steel guitar, the lady on fiddle beginning of set, all knocking it out of the park. Pure Fun.

This video thrills me. I had to write something. I've been in so many jams like this here and in Europe on tour with my band. I'm 68, I'm a pianist and singer. And I've always been in Paradise onstage having pure fun with talented people. And the other great, great Nashville jam that really thrills me is "All you ever do is let me down." I love the beat, the rhythm, especially behind the fiddle player, I wish I knew that fiddle player was. The groove is particularly cool behind her.

Deep Elem is the part of downtown Dallas that back then was east of the Texas Central Railroad tracks, now Central Expressway. For a while, it was an upscale bar scene. It has gone past that now. Always, industrial and commercial shops.

Jim Gaudet and The Railroad Boys with Sara Milonovich on fiddle, Sten Isachsen on Mandolin, Scott Hopkins, Banjo, had fun on this magic musical night at Music City Roots. Tony Kamel from Wood and Wire kicks it off with his guitar intro. Jim Lauderdale sings the first verse then turns to Jim Gaudet for the next verse and chorus. Other players that we can identify include, from Wood and Wire, Billy Bright, Mandolin, Trevor Smith, Banjo, Dom Fisher, Bass, Evie Ladin and Keith Terry, Erik Deutsch and The Jazz Outlaws.

This song was made famous by the Grateful Dead, but it was actually written and first recorded by a white Western Swing group playing in rough clubs in inner city "Deep Ellum," Texas--back before Western Swing music went big time. It was actually the then equivalent of Punk Rock. Wild dance music.

I’ve always preferred the Bob and Joe Shelton version from 1935. It fell into the public domain and the Grateful Dead changed it. The original song was recorded in 1927 as the black bottom blues.

I'd like to know who are the girls at 2:50 and 4:40 respectively, awesome singers having fun with great performance. It's a pity we don't have a concerts and artists like that here in Brasil. Instead of this here in Brasil, we have a poor culture that have been streaming by one strong tv coverage for a long period of time for all of our country's states, in special southeast states, becoming almost extinct our rich regionals culture. It's very sad and I feel so sorry for our young people. Peace and greetings from São Paulo, Brasil.
