Roy Orbison used to wear those big, dark sunglasses because he was afraid of crowds and they helped him by putting a barrier between him and the crowd. From what Orville's saying, the mask probably serves a similar purpose for him, in that he seems pretty shy but the mask and costumes help him to come out of his shell. A lot of drag queens are this way as well.

Orville Peck is the most refreshing country music singer we've seen in a LONG LONG TIME! He's a creative genius, & such a wonderful guy. I was lucky to have gotten the chance to meet him. He's so laid back & very sincere. His fans really do mean a lot to him & it shows. I fell in love with his music as soon as Pony came out. I went to see him when he was the opening band in OK. City...I didn't care to see the main act (Lord Huron), I wanted to see him play & him only! Being that he was the opening act, that's how I got a chance to meet him. I have a picture with him & a signed Pony album that I will cherish forever. His music is amazing & I can't wait to see him play again this July 30th in St. Louis!

I love Orville's honesty, with who he is, what he likes, and his music. God has blessed him with multiple talents, and an eloquence most artists aspire to. Thank you Orville for having the best voice in country music, or music in general.

Articulate offering. Truly, in my long lifetime, I have been able to perceive country music as having as broad a range as what we call rock and roll. Instead of dissing this young man, I think we should be asking what a fearful world we have created that so many artists feel the need to distance themselves.

The things that always fascinated me were maybe parts of American culture that kind of get overlooked at as American culture. I mean motels, for instance, I think are really fascinating. Motels don't really exist anywhere else in the world except for Canada and the U.S. really in the same way that we know them. I think there's something really cool about the people that end up in them, and how they're run, and the kind of crazy shit that goes down in them sometimes. I think funny things like that, that's way more American to me than someone standing on their lawn saluting the flag or whatever. -Orville Peck
