Alright. for those of you who don't know it - I'm a huge fan of the Black Canary. And I really like what they've done with Sara in the show. I even don't want Laurel to be the Canary, but it's canon and I respect it. Well..I love Dinah Laurel Lance in comics, she's so awesome.. But I don't think that Laurel in "Arrow" can become so..badass, funny, lovely, awesome and etc.

Sara Lance is the Black Canary of Arrow, and the best female character in the Arrowverse. Miss her a lot. She was a hero, who suffered a lot, but came through the other side with the help of the Arrow. Too bad they killed her and made Black Canary revolving door for characters that just don't deserve it. And on Legends she continue to be the hero, when the show allows her, among all the silly comedy.

I've never understood why people think "Same Name" == "Same Character". Not only did Smallville show how that isn't always true, but it also means that characterization is pointless. For instance, Dinah Lance has a sisterly relationship with a girl named Sin. Laurel does not, but Sara does. Dinah Lance is notoriously free-spirited, and a little bit reckless, that describes Sara, while Laurel is a lawyer who is shown to be constantly studying in flashbacks. So if we look at "who this character is", isn't it far more "respectful to the canon" to have Sara be the Black Canary? How is staying true to a character's name more faithful than staying true to their soul?

Perfectly put. I will never understand why people get so fixated on a name as opposed to the essence of a character which is far more important. By that logic, if Roy woke up one morning and decided to change his name to "Bruce Wayne", we would subsequently have Batman on Arrow. Come on. Or maybe it's just people who prefer Laurel to Sara anyway, and the name is just an excuse for them.

I don't understand how anyone can prefer Laurel to any character, much less Sara. Laurel is Arrow's answer to Lana Lang in Smallville: that obnoxious character that the show runners inexplicably love and bend over backwards to accommodate, at the expense of every other character on the show, but everyone in the audience still hates. Now they are trying to convince us that this useless character has somehow earned the mantle of Black Canary over the FAR more deserving Sara? Nice try, guys. I'll stick with the real thing, thanks.

***** as a Lana fan even I can say Laurel is a FAR better written character. Laurel has fought for others as a lawyer and DA. She has put others before her self and forgiven others. She has had her hardships but she has grown from it and came out stronger. And now she's honoring her sister by taking up her mantle. Sara AND Laurel are both great characters, but in different ways. Sara came in tough, while we will see Laurel actually train. We should stop bashing one to praise the other
