People love Shawn better because she is the typical all american girl from the midwest. She isn't a russian born girl from two former olympians. She is the girl next door & makes the olympic dream look possible. AND, if people are going to nit-pick the all-around thing, well Shawn and Nastia each have a gold medal. But if you compare all the individual events. Shawn beat Nastia twice (in beam and floor). Nastia only beat Shawn once (all-around).

@vivernyc A little sickness to these gymnasts is absolutely nothing to then. They are too tough to be phased. During the Olympics Mckayla Maroney had a foot injury that would've kept an NFL "athlete" out for about 4 months. She shook it off and said "That's a toe and this is the Olympics." Proves to you how tough gymnasts are.

Any gymnast can compete without feeling well! Shannon Miller won the AA at the 1993 World Championships with a stomach bug, and Lauren Mitchell from Australia was pretty poorly throughout the London games. It's been done so many times, all gymnasts are astonishing athletes and make any other athlete look like wimps.

honestly..i mean this year's women's gymnastics team is somewhat good..but they can improve so much more. imo they don't even compare or gabby and aly don't compare to nastia and shawn. nastia and shawn did some really difficult and unique shit on beam, floor, etc and then stuck their landing at the same time too. gabby and aly could touch up their landings and making their routines last longer. of course i want usa too win lol but i feel like we only won because the other countries were sucking

Nastia is the greatest. I adore here. She has this humbleness and maturity about her that she's had for years. She's a great speaker as well. Can definitely see her commentating down the road. I wonder if it's awkward for Shawn and Nastia to talk about the All-Around though.

Carly Patterson's interview skills from 2004 to now is like night and day. It's crazy to think how young she was when she won the gold medal.

It never ceases to amaze me what keeps grown men (who get paid millions to basically play kid's games) & Collegiate athletes as well, off the field. They get medical attention right away! In gymnastics, if you don't have a bone sticking out of your body (I've seen that), then you are going to keep practicing & esp in competition, keep going. I trained with a 3x Olympic Coach & could tell stories all day. Little girls are tougher & get no medical attention than men in sports! Exception is MMA!

The reason Shawn got more media attention after 08 was she was sooo much more like able. I love love love Nastia's gymnastics but in interviews she always came off as fake where as Shawn seemed more natural

Nastia beat Shawn out in Bars. Shawn didn't even qualify. Nastia qualified for 3 event finals and got a medal in all of them. The Liukin-Johnson rivalry was just the best gymnastics rivalry ever.

Shawn is my favorite because she continued gymnastics after an injured knee and she's just so inspriational

I am all for the American girls, Alexandra Raisman my favorite & I also loved the foreign competition of my other favorite Henrietta Onodi. I get bored watching men's sports but I believe I will always enjoy watching real women in athletic action, & yes I am one if the few who does not like transvestites in women's sports & I am saying this because so many people seem just fine with it

We definitely had a nice cushion because other countries made mistakes, but that also shows that the Americans can hit their routines, which are much more difficult nowadays than in past years, and stay strong through the pressure. Other countries just weren't very strong when it came to the pressure and difficult skills.

@xpolymerobsessed Not in the current code. Cuz in the current code nastia and Shawn's d scores go down. And each will have a really weak event. In the current code you'd need a 17+ d score or a stuck amanar to get a 16+ score. Gabby not having a weak event has the advantage

thats not true at all..........Gabby was much more of an all around gymnast than shawn or nastia, she doesn't have a weak event, all her routines are difficult and she is fabulous on all four. Also the US team are stronger this time around then in beijing, even if the other countries didn't make mistakes the USA still would have won.

@andreikristian Uneven bars was there's reason why Shawn never had a chance really. The deficit along with Nastia's execution clinched the gold for Liukin.

Shawn got more media attention the nastia and nastia is the one who wn all around just saying this becaus Shawn was expected to win just lie how jorydn was but the best was sick and didn't do 100% that's why nastia always says no one can take her medals from her. Love them both but I rather watch Shawn I like power gymnast better than more of a dancer one like nastia

Used to love watching gymnastics. It was amazing to watch 3 Olympic champions that are truly woman. Nowadays, I can’t watch gymnastics anymore, because you have men pretending to be women. It’s sad.
