everyone is commenting how “she’s too late” or “she shouldn’t have tried coming back” but i don’t think there’s any shame in trying to come back. i think it’s admirable she tried again, especially at the age she was at the time. making it to the olympic trials a second time is something to be very proud of and i think it’s great she gave it a go

My heart really goes out to competitors everywhere for those times that they've put in all they had to give and just come up short... I remember Nastias coach with his heart beating out of his chest and already crying saying "World Champion!! I'm telling you!" When she would go on to take all around gold. Moments... some moments will love forever... this was actually one of them to know that she would go from tears of slight pain and more wounded pride/embarrassment, to bounce back with her head held high, silencing any doubts about her place in history forever.

Makes you realize how hard these routines really are...when she wasn't properly conditioned, she majorly messed up every single bars routine that she attempted.

Funny thing, if she hadn't stopped training for so many years, she probably would have made the team as a specialist on bars and beam!

@@Sweetlovewhit91to be fair had she started her come back a year earlier, probably would’ve made 2011 worlds and the olympics, her bar routine would have been Inbar half + Healy + ling + Healy 1/2 + geinger Inbar + pak Double front DEEEDDDD - 3.5 + 2.5 cr + .8cv = 6.8, she would’ve been scoring in the mid 15s and a beam in the low 15s too which would’ve been way more competitive than Kyla
@kevinsam30784 жыл бұрын
Thats why she shouldnt have started only a few months prior , she was already a more of an artistic gymnast and even in Beijing and before 2008 she wasnt really known for her endurance and power , especially with her height its hard , her whole bars routine was too much for her , she should have started from the other side of the high bar, only do two pirouettes into the geinger, and take out the tkatchev or connect it to the pak, and only do a double front , it wouldve shortened her routine and give her a chance to make it
@alinaporter38464 жыл бұрын
What do u mean “with her height” she 5 foot 3 inches Kyla Ross is waayyy taller
@alinaporter38463 жыл бұрын
toaster oven “routines are simpler at the college level so you don’t need as much endurance” WAIT. WHAT?! I think the reason it seems that way is because in college the team is made up of people from different skill levels. I have seen a few girls and routines that could definitely podium in the olympics. I kinda don’t understand the what and why of what you are trying to say... because Nastia is average height for a gymnast! Also, I don’t believe she got taller after the Olympics which mean the height is nothing new for her. Hitting her foot on the bar has nothing to do with her height! She hit her foot because she had not been training.

Nastia has always been one of my favorites, but she should have took her 2008 gold and been done.
@sophiachiaverini82993 жыл бұрын
i agree, but at least she tried. she would have lived the rest of her life wondering if she was capable of going to one more olympics, so im glad that she gave it a shot. if she had started training sooner i bet she coulda had more success, but she would have also had to have changed her entire routine to accommodate the 2012 code of points. her bar routine is way too long and exhausting and does not give her a very high difficulty
@ljcovey526610 ай бұрын
Or, she should have started practicing sooner. I believe she didn't have many weeks in the gym before this.
@Biskmut3 жыл бұрын
She was just not in good enough shape at this point to complete this routine. I know everyone has said this already but if she had started training a few months earlier... 2 clean bars and beam routines would have put some serious pressure on that Kyla Ross spot.
@nicolahui60692 жыл бұрын
honestly still think kyla would have gotten it, the US needed 2 safe routines and kyla always scored at 15 or higher

This is kinda upsetting to watch. They’re trained so hard when they’re young that their body just can’t keep going at the same pace anymore. The culture around training since then has gotten better with pacing gymnasts, and now many gymnasts are continuing elite training well into their 20s. Pauline Schäfer, Ellie Black, Elizabeth Seitz. Gymnasts in their 30s too: Jade Barbosa, Vanessa Ferrari. Gymnasts in the 40s: Oksana Chusovitina … to name a few! Haha

It's easy to judge when we're just spectators. Nastia fought through injuries and surgeries....the amount of endurance, physical strength, plus mental stamina required is nearly superhuman. To have only been back in training for 6 months, she was spectacular. She just needed more time. Her legacy is firmly intact, with OR without 2012.
