Nasturtiums as Companion Plants?

Neighbors across the street are restoring a house before the owner returns next year to occupy it. That includes the landscape and recently they cured a problem area of the front yard, right next to the driveway --- a bare patch waiting for something next to the neighbor's front lawn. They planted nasturtiums and quickly they filled in the area, roughly three feet by ten. What was wonderful about watching the nasties take over that plot was how well they fit in, stopping right at the edges of the lawn and driveway.
