Rap fans moved to reece because reece raps. People who appreciate versatility are still sticking with nasty c and his monthly listeners are growing. He is gaining fans outside the continent. You guys are not looking at the bigger picture. You are speaking about fans shifting to reece when reece has been stuck on 400k listeners and he couldn't even outcompete Usimamane

@@Nerd-gasm the problem is you compare a signed artist with play-listing being pushed by labels with A-Reece he’s indie with R400k monthly listeners pushing almost over 15 million streams on his projects while independent that’s unreal especially for a South African artist

I would cry if Nasty falls off. These clips of him sound like an indecisive person - not sure where to go. very scared as well; very scared of following his heart, but rather conforming to what the 'public' deems the right path to take. but also, I've never spent a day in my life with him so this wouldn’t be a discerning take huh. also, this has nothing to do with the EP, but my observation on the clips of him speaking included here. I wish him well - generational talent man.

Trust me this guy knows what he’s doing. Don’t be scared, all the experience working with Def Jam will help him when he is independent. Look at him now touring Europe, his CV is strong enough to get deals. Let’s just pray for him to achieve the bigger dream. Plus he never hated amapiano he said that amapiano artists shouldn’t approach him and that he would rather do a house song before doing an amapiano song. This channel here will tell you what people wanna hear that “Nasty C said he would never do amapiano and he turn back on his word.” He is the best hip hop artist to ever come out of South Africa. @@thechillpill861 wants a hit? Have you listened to his unreleased songs(snippets). Nasty's vault is full of hits. He said it himself that he just wants to take a break off hip hop because he feels like he's not in the right state of mind so the Ep for him is just him having fun and when the time is right he will come back. Plus this proves that you don't listen to the music. On release me he said"don't hold me to nothin' I said before, please release me". Either way you're entitled to your opinion, but just give the guy a break he needs the fresh air considering the fact that he almost quit making music because of going through a rough patch

He should have said "numbers wise" Not "music wise" Amapiano just taking the numbers game, doesn't make it better than hiphop Nasty. Hiphop has been around for 50 years and 40 in SA. That was not a mistake
@realtreytee
@realtreytee 2 ай бұрын
I beg to differ. Nasty C is already hugely successful, so if he simply wanted "numbers," he could have easily stuck to the hip-hop style his fans expect and love. Instead, by blending genres, he's taking a risk to express something real about his journey. This project isn’t about following trends; it's a personal celebration of his resilience and growth. Through this EP, he's exploring new sounds that resonate with where he is in life right now, capturing the joy he wants to feel in his music again.

@realtreytee I understand you, doesn't change the fact that you can do more with just hiphop, without downplaying the "music" aspect of hiphop, I double down on the my statement. He should have said "Numbers Wise" At the end of the day, the way he packages his work is important for not just him but the people that support him, so some of us don't appreciate that statement at all.
@realtreytee

That's the thing you saying some, on the other end some of us appreciate the ep. Yhea we all want a hip hop project from him and there are a number of leaks that we feel like he should drop them but we don't know what's happening on his end and we know that the music is there but he is not releasing it, there's nothing we can do except for let him do his thing and when the time is right he will deliver like he promised. I still stand against the numbers thing, as if he knows that dropping a hiphop project would have got him more numbers even if he dropped the full songs of the snippets he has out. He has been in songs that aren't hiphop for the longest time, eg fall asleep. Like where is the issue?

Okay, so quick disclaimer. This is gonna be a long ass comment, so please take your time and read to the end to understand the point I wanna make. Kenyan here. So don't come for me. I'm not from SA in any form or fashion, so if there's intricacies about the South African industry (hiphop or just music in general) that I'm not prevy to, or if I say something that's not particularly spot on or seems out of turn, please don't hold it against me. This is just a perspective, from the outside looking in. But I promise, I pay attention to African hiphop on a continental scale as much as I can. And I'm a rapper too, so it's expected that I've studied hiphop to a degree, and continue to study it to this day. Now, Nasty C says a lot of things here. Yes, in hiphop we sample a lot, because the whole genre is built off samples, and have Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian tell it, this was at a time in the Bronx where live music instruments were taken out of the schools. So all these kids had was their parent's record players. So to say 'Piano is better because in hiphop there is a lot of sampling is not fair on hiphop, Especially considering that live instrumentation was introduced to hiphop not too long afterwards (The Roots, for example). And SA has a pretty example of live instrumentation in Hiphop. I'm pretty sure Tumi and the Volume were a live hiphop band. And given the nature of live music, where it's not just organic, but there's also a lot of improvisation, that would mean original melodies exist in hiphop, and are more common than we think. Cuz we've seen this with The Roots and, a lot closer to home for y'all, Tumi and the Volume. Saying afrobeat and piano is better than hiphop because there's better singers is like saying Jazz is better than R&B because there's better instrumentalists. It's not fair because these are different genres that are great in their own right. Now as far as people playing a weird game of faking shit in hiphop, that's a problem on its own. Albeit not unique to hiphop, it's a problem on its own. Let me explain why. Hip hop's fundamentals are the following; DJing, MCing, Beatboxing, Breakdancing, Graffiti and Knowledge. Some would even argue fashion is part of it, but that's neither here nor there. What I wanna focus on here is knowledge. Now, Knowledge or consciousness, is highly valued in hiphop. Which isn't just an understanding of the spiritual, or social-political workings or our world, but also just your individual life. You gotta know who you are before you know about the world. And all over the world, that has been abandoned. Rappers aren't being who they are. They're being what they've seen growing up. While it's okay to admire, it's better to original. Be yourself. And to some degree, that has been thrown to the way side in favour of what the algorithm wants. And I think that's his gripe with hiphop; People not being who they are. Now, I also think there's a lot that he ain't saying. I think he isn't saying that hiphop isn't doing so well in the continent. It's still but a subculture in African music, which by itself is already diverse, with the leading genres being Afrobeat and Amapiano. From a business standpoint, I can understand why it would be better to station yourself in that lane. But to say the genre is better and more original is not only a lazy argument, but also, again, not a fair argument to make. As far as whether or not Nasty C should do 'Piano or not, it's perfectly fine to do so. No problem in expanding your horizons because that's how you grow. Besides, Nasty's versatility is a package deal when listening to his music, because that's just who he is. I think he's well within his rights to just make the music he wants to make and not worry about external forces influencing how he make his shit. I just think there was a lot he wasn't saying under the guise of Afrobeat and Amapiano being better than hiphop. But if there's anything I'm missing, Y'all can let me know. If there's anything I didn't get quite right, enlighten me. Because, again, this is y'all scene. Not mine. Many blessings. Love from kenya🇰🇪💯🖤

Nasty is a very talented artist, this will pass. I just want to say Nasty seems genuine abt wanting to be versatile as a artist & for the most part he's good at it. I just want to say excluding Nasty C or Blxckie, pls stop telling hip-hop artist to be versatile. There's no such criteria in hop-hop it's just a bonus not a requirement. Majority of hip-hop legends are not versatile at all. From Hov, Nas, Biggy you name it, the word versatility doesn't belong in hip-hop. It's only post Pharrell, Kanye West & Nelly era did versatility start to show itself in hip-hop. But even now in a era where we have the likes of Tyler, The Creator, versatility is still irrelevant in any hip-hop debate overseas. We the only hip-hop audience that forces this word down our artists throat, its stupid and it shows our lack of understanding when it comes to the genre of hip-hop. Even in other genres imagine telling Elaine "she's not versatile she should try rapping on one of her songs" that doesn't make sense & that's exactly what we doing to our hip-hop artists. It needs to end, anyway great vid hope to see more content you've been quiet. A topic that's making it's waves right now is this whole numbers debate, hope you make a vid on that soon.

Is It Over For Him? No, it ain 't even close to that because music-wise, he's killing it, and he literally just finished off his European tour. He took a chance by tapping into a genre he barely has done, and the EP is banging. The only problem is the numbers. My question is, what did people expect a five-track Afro Beats EP from a hip-hop act to sell/do?
