My father's best friend was once driving in the South and stopped when he saw a Cadillac with a flat tire. He changed the spare for the African American woman with a small child. He refused money but agreed to give her his address so she could send a thank you card. A week later, the Sears delivery van showed up with the best tv they sold and a letter that said "Thank you for helping my wife and daughter. Love, Nat King Cole."

I can't imagine being so young that you have _heard_ the name Nat King Cole but you know none of his music! I'm glad someone turned you on to him. This song, "Nature Boy," is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs of any era. NKC was mostly featured as a singer, but he had huge skills as a musician. I didn't realize this until I heard an interview with Glen Campbell who did a mountain of session work for some of the top musicians in the early to mid 60s, not the least of which was Nat King Cole. He said that most people don't know the depths of this man's talent, that he was an extremely accomplished pianist. If a musician of the caliber of Glen Campbell sings your praises, you're good!

Nat King Cole was the epitome of class. I could listen to him for hours. His tone and skill were phenomenal and smooth as velvet. Just the sound of his voice could soothe a troubled soul. If you like his voice, you need to listen to his song "Unforgettable". On February 15th 1965, we lost a National treasure. That was the day he lost his battle with cancer. His daughter, Natalie Cole, was a great singer in her own right. She performed a virtual duet of "Unforgettable" with him. Unfortunately, she is also no longer with us. Johnny Mathis, who sings with a similar style, was heavily influence by Nat King Cole. While I enjoy Johnny immensely, no one will every be as good as the original Mr Cole.
