My father's best friend was once driving in the South and stopped when he saw a Cadillac with a flat tire. He changed the spare for the African American woman with a small child. He refused money but agreed to give her his address so she could send a thank you card. A week later, the Sears delivery van showed up with the best tv they sold and a letter that said "Thank you for helping my wife and daughter. Love, Nat King Cole."

NKC become a massive star, and even had his own TV show, based on that silky baritone voice - plus his very gracious manner. But before he ever sang a note, he was a MONSTER jazz pianist! He was a giant in jazz and pop. I believe he was one of the first black men to have a sponsored TV program. I wonder if that's where this clip comes from. Should date back to early 50s. It's Nov 19, 2018 and a radio station is playing all Christmas music. He recorded quite a few of them, and many are favorites. He died young, but left a giant legacy.

Unforgettable was one of NKC's best known hits. Many years later, Natalie Cole recorded a duet version along side her father's voice and took the song to No. 1 again! Nat "King" Cole was a legend in his own time and had his own successful television show when tv was still black & white! That's where the video you watched came from. Great reaction. I can't imagine being so young that you have _heard_ the name Nat King Cole but you know none of his music! I'm glad someone turned you on to him. This song, "Nature Boy," is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs of any era. NKC was mostly featured as a singer, but he had huge skills as a musician. I didn't realize this until I heard an interview with Glen Campbell who did a mountain of session work for some of the top musicians in the early to mid 60s, not the least of which was Nat King Cole. He said that most people don't know the depths of this man's talent, that he was an extremely accomplished pianist. If a musician of the caliber of Glen Campbell sings your praises, you're good!

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return". Nat was the first black man who ever had his own TV show in 1957. Nat King Cole was the epitome of class. I could listen to him for hours. His tone and skill were phenomenal and smooth as velvet. Just the sound of his voice could soothe a troubled soul. If you like his voice, you need to listen to his song "Unforgettable". On February 15th 1965, we lost a National treasure. That was the day he lost his battle with cancer. His daughter, Natalie Cole, was a great singer in her own right. She performed a virtual duet of "Unforgettable" with him. Unfortunately, she is also no longer with us. Johnny Mathis, who sings with a similar style, was heavily influence by Nat King Cole. While I enjoy Johnny immensely, no one will every be as good as the original Mr Cole.

I've always loved Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie Cole. Oh, I just remembered listening to him on a record my parents had in the 1960s. I was very young and really had a crush on his picture on the album and I thought his name was Nat, King Cole. I wondered what country he was king of!! LOL, thanks for the memories.

Him singing "Smile" will always be one of my favorites. It's so calming and somehow both happy and sad.

One of the greatest male singers of all time, imho. Died of cancer at age 45 and is missed by those who knew him. On his TV show he once had Billy Preston (the 5th Beatle for many) when Preston was about 11 years old and they did a duet. It's on YT and you won't regret watching, particularly if you remember Billy Preston.

Nat King Cole was a pioneer. Known for his velvet voice. In 1956, Nat was the first African American to host a TV variety show This was unheard of ar the time Whites welcolmed him into their living rooms. Remember this was way before Dr. Kings movement of equality. I always liked the song Sentimental Reasons.

I remember watching Nate King Cole on TV, and Mama, was always playing his music, and Daddy played country. Daddy also loved swing music... Dorsey Band ..String of Pearls. I believe the Baby Boomers heard the best music......we grew up listening to it all!

I remember seeing him sing "Mona Lisa" on one of the variety shows of the day. The audience would not let him stop until he had sung the song 3 times. I never saw anything like it. They had to totally re-vamp the show, shuffle things around to make room for him to stay on the stage. He was a monster talent and you ought to hear him cut loose on the piano. Died too young of cancer.

I love this song! My mother used to sing this to me instead of lullabies.
