Despite Nat being the most cleverest through music, I personally feel that the other members of The King Cole Trio deserve some more credit than they got.

Nat the KING COLE was a Brilliant Artist/ Musician. He was very handsome make or no make up. Most commenting negatively about his appearance sound either jealous or prejudice Stop hating on the man. Nat had it going on and still does. No one can touch him in his own right.

Such a huge talent - they lightened him for television - for white audiences - what a shame - he was so handsome - and then when he had a 30 minute television variety show they eventually cut it down to 15 minutes - he was so talented in voice and piano - great musician - died way too young and was treated unfairly for such a great talent! Love his voice - never be another!

I LOVE this video. Nat is Brilliant. Too bad that some of you are upset about Nat wearing the makeup to lighten his look. It does not take away ANYthing from his sensational performance, to me. I was actually alive during these days, and I do not remember a word, negative or positive, about Nat's ethnicity. Nobody cared. He was Nat King Cole, and ALL people loved him. LOVED HIM.

The other members of the band are more fair complexioned and don't appear to have the cake makeup. Clearly they were concerned about the impact that a dark skinned performer would have on the audience. A sad sign of the times. Nat's genius however still shine through.

Nat Cole toured with "Jazz At The Philharmonic" and cut some incredible trio sides with Buddy Rich and Lester Young, who, after Louis Armstrong is considered to be the most important person in Jazz. Check this out: watch?v=PqYaB4_Z9JU Because Cole was under exclusive contract with Capitol Records, he had to be billed as "Aye Guy" on these other sides.

@WintersWar
@WintersWar 4 жыл бұрын
@@marsha1758 to keep it in context, if I were trying to get ahead and get an audience, I would let them paint me green on that stage to get my material out there. Look at what steve allen did to elvis presley on stage? there's a long list of balmy actions that took place in the past for whatever the reason. be it bias, jealously, revenge.
@marsha1758
@marsha1758 4 жыл бұрын
@@WintersWar your willful ignorance doesn't erase what is evident in this video. Mr. Cole didn't paint his skin to get ahead. He was already popular by the time he made this song. He did it to make his appearance more palatable to a white audience. Racist tend to have a problem seeing people who don't look like them.
@WintersWar
@WintersWar 4 жыл бұрын
@@marsha1758 Apparently your narrow- minded ignorance has caused you to miss my point entirely. Back then Blacks or even a new type of musician or comedian of any stripe for that matter didn't have a wide outlet or opportunity to showcase their talent without having to play the game, irrespective of talent. This is hard to understand?
