Natalie Cole performed at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival one year, and the night before her performance, my late husband and I saw her at the Hyatt sports bar downtown. Of course, I grew up listening to her beautiful voice and admiring her exquisite looks, with which I could identify. When she got up and moved toward the restroom, I followed shortly after and said, "Ms. Cole, I just want to tell you that I've loved you my whole life." Her demeanor softened, she gave me a beautiful smile, and her green-brown eyes sparkled. I melted right in front of her. That night, I obtained my most coveted autograph on a napkin. Thank you, Natalie. You're forever in my heart. ❤❤

There was a highly educated and accomplished black society in Los Angeles in the 1950/60s of doctors, lawyers, architects, professors, and professional people where her parents belonged. I had a friend who was invited to her numerous birthday parties in Hancock Park. It was the time of black is beautiful, and an awakening of other black groups that Natalie wanted to know. Her mother resisted, she was defensive, and family conflict ensued. Yes, the drug culture very sadly captured her and many others....You can see how beautifully she dressed as a reminder of her high society background...Her health dominated her life.....She was wonderful, and a treasure to America's musical history...Her father would have been very proud of her........

I realize that most claim that they did it for survival and to make sure that their children were given a better chance at life however how does that help us as a whole? It doesn’t. It creates a battle of who’s better and who’s prettier between us that will never end. Natalie was a beautiful and talented woman and I’ll always remember her as such.

@KamalasNotLikeUs9 ай бұрын
They were not the only two. Hancock Park is next to Country Club Park and Longwood Highlands, as well as Wilshire Center on one side and Greater Wilshire on the other. They all fed into the same junior high: Burroughs Middle School and either LA High School or Fairfax HS (not that the well heeled attend public school after elementary, but some do). A little further southeast is the West Adams area, where several of the churches that affluent Blk LA attended still stand (Holman UMC, First AME, et al). All of these areas were ones in which Paul R. Williams designed buildings and homes, leaving a remarkable imprint on the landscape. The entire swath was part of affluent Blk LA, some with higher Blk populations than others.

I feel for her children growing up under her comments and aspirations-- poor Natalie and her siblings. I noticed that you never see pictures of the adopted children, I guess they got kicked to the curb after birth children came along. Probably sent to boarding school and kept out of the limelight. Many blessings to the Cole family. I grew up listening to her and her dad's music. I also have covered some of her dad's songs; most recently I sang "Autumn Leaves" and played Taps at my own dad's funeral in 2022. For some reason I do feel a great connection to them.

She looks like a model in every picture. She had a successful but sad life and she seemed to be a nice person. RIP Ms Cole.

I loved both Nat and Natalie's songs. "Unforgettable" by Nat, and "Our Love" and "Jumpstart" are three of my all-time favorite songs. Furthermore, Natalie was also one of my favorite actresses. I wish that she continued on longer to grace the world with her exceptional talents. She is definitely missed. Great work, and thank you for YOUR talent in bringing us these wonderful (sometimes untold) stories. 👍🏾
