My first child is a late August birthday. I was getting a lot of pressure from others about waiting a year to send him to kindergarten. After lots of praying and discussing it with my husband, I followed my gut and sent him to school. He thrived and had a great year. Interestingly after first grade, we decided to homeschool. We are about to start our 8th year of homeschooling, and my son is starting his freshman year of high school (can't believe it!). Now that decision to start or to wait seems like such a small thing! I am telling this whole story just to send you a little pat on the back for following your mama instincts with regard to your kids' education. I love following your journey!

Watching this SUPER late! We send our kids to public school, but I do work with them outside of school especially during the summer to prep them for the next year and keep their brains working! We will be a homeschool family starting this fall, as well! It's so much harder to find curriculum here in Canada, I'm jealous of the resources you have there. We don't have Target and our Amazon.ca is so limited in comparison. Usborne has a lot of great reads and activities that we've been enjoying so far and I expect we will get a lot more from them.

Hi Natalie. I'm just seeing this now. 1st,love your hair! 2nd. I got the samebooks for both of my kids. Great ideas. Thanks for sharing these. Also,quick tip- laminate a few pages of the things you want to have as practice pages. Its saved me from buying multiples after multiples. I make copies and laminate when we want to put pages into a binder. I have a 5 year old boy and 3 year old girl.

We home school as well. My son will be turning five in November! You should try laminating some of the cards. It’s cheap to have it done and makes them last years and years 🙂

Hello Natalie, Theresa here, My 20 year old Caitie was 5 when I started teaching her about money, but I taught her with a game I bought. It was both paper money and plastic coins that you matched to two puzzle pieces that you put together, She loved it, most likely due to her love of puzzles

Fun!!! I started homeschooling last year and this year I'll have two school aged kids. First grade and kindergarten. I'm also due with number 5 in late October!!! So I've been nesting so bad getting ready for the school year 😍. I've been emptying out what was an extra bedroom that we used for our classroom but we need it for the new baby now! So I'm totally redoing our system too and have things split between our kitchen and dining room 😀

I found money and telling time flash cards at goodwill! One of my favorite stores because you never know what you'll find! I've found other school things there too as well as at garage sales. I have found a few things at target too including that US map and a book about the states. I have to really ask myself if we need it or I'll go crazy with homeschool shopping and run out of room lol.

Hey Natalie I love your videos! I’m a student teacher. I just wanted to recommend getting fake money that looks more like real money if you can find any cheap sets. Students have an easier time understanding money as they get older if it looks more like the real thing.

I was a homeschooled kid k-12, and college was the first time I went to a “public school.” I just graduated in June from University California Davis, and I told my husband how weird it was to go by the school section at target and no actually need anything this fall as this is the first school year not going back. Crazy weird. My little girl is due in two weeks and I’m excited for when I get to homeschool her too. ;) I know it’ll be a bit. But let’s face it, homeschoolers like to start teaching early. 😆 On a different note, my new favorite kids book is called “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates.” It’s about a little girl dinosaur. It’s adorable! Worth looking at and getting. Highly recommend it. It’s a cute book.

@NatalieBennett (sorry, a little long, but...) I had to come back to your video and tell you how happy I am I saw this and picked up a few things from the video for our own homeschoolling room this year. I homeschool four this year from age 13 down to almost 6. We have done delayed start, so 5 yo and my 7 yo are working at about the same level. Well, today, we were doing a rhyming activity with simple CVC words. I had picked up two sets of the wooden letter blocks from Bullseye's Playground. My 7 yo grasped the concept really quickly, but my 5 yo was struggling. So I was able to pull out both sets and model the original word with one set and she helped me build the other words from the pictures, and she could "see" if the ending was the same or different. This was just the manipulative to help with teaching rhyming! Thank you for sharing.

My granddaughter 4 likes drawing lines to match the things. Like mama to baby , nest to bird, ect. Do you know what those books may be called and where you can find cheap preschool books. Its also cheaper to copy the pages and make a book. Also small white board to practice writing is great.

Just came across your channel. Just stopped working and became a sahm and trying to homeschool my 20 months and 4 yr old. How do you do the level test to see where they are at? They know a lot. My 20 month old knows his letters and some numbers and shapes and colors. My 5 yr old knows way more. In daycare they had to put him with the kindergarten class since he turned 3 and he knew too much. Also what is the name of that math wooden block from target?

#ABC123 I loved Seminary! I don't know if this counts as a regular "school" class, but in my small Christian town it did! It was so nice to take a break from school and spend some time in the Bible with my peers. If I can't choose Seminary, I loved Speech & Communications and Drama! Two ways I can be loud and express my dramatic self! 😂
