#backtofall I used to be a teacher and this is my favorite time of year. However, for the first time I will not be going back to school this year. I chose to instead stay home with my son who will be one in October. I am starting a new season of life of raising my kids, homemaking, and someday homeschooling! I am looking forward to fully enjoying this fall (without the added pressure of preparing to go back to school). I can’t wait to do all the fun fall activities with my little boy this year! Pumpkin patches, cozying up with a book and a cup of coffee, putting him in a little Halloween costume, can’t wait!!

Laundry we now do 1 load a day. Family of 6. We have ONE laundry bin by the washer and dryer and everyone always puts their clothes there. It is so nice. I dont have to go arpund the house looking for clothes anymore. My kids 13, 4, 3, and 2 are reminded every time to put them in the laundry and it gets done. ❤ Where as before there was piles of clothes tucked in various places, eventhough they had personal laundry bins. And clean clothes was washed because they were too lazy to put away.

My tip for laundry.... Do one load a day. The trick is to do one family members laundry only. That way you are not going around the house gathering up laundry from each bedroom we're trying to get everyone to put away clothes all the time. One person's laundry gets done from start to finish and put away. The next day another person. No sorting! Once a week do a load of towels or dishcloths. 😊

#backtofall I love the brisk air and look forward to opening window and not having AC running. Coffee on back patio with my hubby and our little fireplace going, fall fairs and car shows with hubby and children/grand children, our fall Sunday afternoon drives that are usually 1-2 hours away and we stop for lunch or coffee, our local apple cider mill opening and meet the children and grands there for cider and cider donuts, pumpkin spice and cinnamon EVERYTHING. Can you tell I love fall most of all?

I really really appreciate that you let the kids go through everything and let them decide if anything is sentimental to them. That is so important. My grandparents would clean my room as a kid and throw everythingggg away. And it hurt me so much especially being a former foster child who wasn't able to have anything. These kids are going to be very well balanced and regulate their feelings well ❤❤

Yay! Go Wendy! Would love to see how its going with your mom because I am currently helping my mom, whose around the same age, go through her stuff! I love seeing people start this journey, its so satisfying at the beginning with all the things they declutter and start to feel the benefits for themselves.

About the laundry routine, I saw this idea and it sounds really nice! Each kid got their own laundry basket (that should be about 1 load of laundry). When it's full, it's their job to put it in the laundry and turn it on (with some help if needed). When it's done, they transfer it to the dryer. When the laundry is dried, they put it back in their basket and bring it back into their room. I've seen some ideas of little bins each for t-shirts, pants, sweaters, underwear,... not folded but easy for them to grab and keep "tidy". So you don't waste time on organizing and folding the laundry (if you mix different persons together), the kids learn little responsibilities and to follow up (if they forget, they can't wear their favorite t-shirts etc)

I love the idea of decluttering being a "maintenance task" -- it makes it seem much less daunting if you approach it as something you just keep chipping away at vs. doing it all at once and trying to keep things in perfect order. That's just not how life works! And your anecdote re: standardized testing and the HSLDA was inspiring; having attended public school as a child, I didn't understand home schooling whatsoever, but as an adult (and by hearing stories like the ones you've shared over the years) I now think it's an awesome way to educate children and really tailor things to their needs and environment. Your kids are so lucky to have a mom like you!

#backtofall my favourite part about autumn is always the first evening it's dark enough to turn all of our fairy lights on. We have always thought of home ed as an option for our daughter (she's only a toddler) but I have been having some serious doubts recently, I'm ashamed to say mainly based on comments from other people (I think it's viewed a bit differently here in the UK).
