Who is Perugius? Mushoku Tensei Lore

Perugius Dola is a Mushoku Tensei character who barely appeared in the anime so far, but who is already mysterious due to his sky castle Chaos Breaker and his fox masked familiar Almanfi (Arumanfi in some English translations). In this video I talk about the lore around Perugius and Laplace, his origins from the prequel story Old Dragon's Tale, his personality, and much more, including information about characters like Technique God and Fighting God, along with Demon God Laplace.
The first part of the video is all based on Mushoku Tensei lore and doesn't contain spoilers for any future plotlines. There is a warning to leave the video for anime only Mushoku Tensei fans before the second section, which talks about how Perugius is involved with Rudeus, Orsted and other characters later in the Mushoku Tensei light novels and web novel.

In the anime orsted asked Rudy about hitogami, but in the manga and light novel he was much more calm and socialble with Rudy, they even had a pretty formal talk while eris and ruined was freaking out. Rudy brought hitogami up with orstead after they started to part ways and then the donutting is the same. Orstead is a pretty chill dude considering rudy just casually bring up the secret Hitler of the world.

Hitogami says to Rudeus that he'll try to turn his descendants against each other and the best way to do it is one of them being Laplace's reincarnation, as it's possible that half of the descendants will try to kill him in order to help Orsted in his mission while the other half will try to defend him because of Sieg being the father of Laplace and because of his position as the 5th of the great powers combined with his political relations.

I can see it happening, but I also don't think it would have anything to do with Hitogami's plans if it does - it's not like Hitogami has any power over who Laplace is reincarnated into. One thing I'm not sure about though is whether a son of Sieg would a) actually happen, given we see him up to middle age in Oblige and no kids are mentioned, and b) be compatible with Laplace anyway, due to Sieg having elf blood from Sylphy's side (given Laplace needs to inhabit a physically similar body). What would be pretty wild would be if instead of being one of Sieg's kids, it's one of Pax Junior's (his mother was demon race, and the green hair comes from the Laplace factor rather than genetics, so reasonably anyone could have a green haired baby). Pax Junior does definitely marry, and then we'd get to see Sieg going even more 'bros before hos' than before...

So Perugius wants to kill Laplace at all cost but Orsted needs Laplace to reach Hitogami so this would put Perugius and Orsted at odds with each other. I wonder if there will be a battle between these two when Laplace is resurrected.

Welllll, not exactly. What Orsted needs are the treasures of the five dragon generals, one of which he has to obtain from Laplace. It is never actually confirmed what these treasures are, but we are sort of lead to assume it is the life force of the person, and that Orsted would therefore need Laplace dead too (though I personally think this might be misdirection and there may be other ways to obtain the treasures without killing the holders of them). The thing is, Perugius is the armored dragon king - his parents were members of the original 5 dragon generals. He also holds one of the five treasures. So, Rudeus at least is under the assumption that Orsted will one day have to kill Perugius. Now, if this is the case, it might actually be OK with Peugius, as long as he gets to kill Laplace before he dies - he's been alive a very long time and that's his only goal. But it might also *not* be OK with him, and then of course, they'd battle.

@@NatalieXHunter Just finished Old Dragon's Tale. The treasures are the gems of divinity that the Dragon God took from the gods of the other five worlds after he killed them. The Dragon God gave the gems to the five Dragon Generals prior to Hitogami stealing the Dragon God's gem of divinity. Perugius is the son of one of the five generals. LaPlace was close to his mother, which makes his actions against LaPlace puzzling. However, as Perugius is reincarnated into a human body, he has largely chosen to turn his back on his Dragon Race heritage, calling the history disgusting. Orsted and Perugius don't particularly get along and Orsted would take the gem if he wanted it but it is not clear where the other gems are as the Dragon Race was practically destroyed by Man God and there are at most a handful of surviving descendants of the Dragon Race in the Human World. They were not allowed in to the Human World when their world was destroyed.

The author seems to be planning to write it after all the MT light novels are out in Japan, and when he's finished his other series Orc Eroica. Wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being this year sometime, but I can't say I've really kept up with all of his interviews etc in Japanese so I'm not sure exactly what he's said on the matter.

Spoilers obviously - We dont have a definitive answer on Perugius's strength. But think of it this way, Perugius needed to work together with many people in order to beat Laplace the Demon God, whereas Orsted can beat Laplace by himself. So without a doubt Orsted is stronger. And considering he is not on the power ranking, he is not top 7.

hope you have a great 2022 full of joy and hp! i often write about how much i adore this story so for a change here i ll write what i really fear!even tho i know how insanly good his writing is i still find it impossible for him to create a more compaling mc in the "main" story we re expecting....from all aspects rudeus was the "perfect" mc with a insanly good written world and characters around him so no matter how much i think about it or talk about it with friends i cant "see" a better written mc for the upcomming story.actually i think thats the reason why we havent see anything from that story even tho its been many years since the end of mushoku(probably the light novels have a role to play in that too).i really hope to hear some news about the new series soon.... much love and best wishes for 2022 to all

I think a change in MC always feels like it won't be as good, but I think it will be. Old Dragon's Tale which has Laplace as the MC is already really good, and I think where with the sequel there will still be Rudeus' presence in the story in terms of his kids and a lot of the other characters who would outlive him due to being of different races (like Roxy and Sylphy), we'll get the sense of continuity as well as having a new, interesting character to follow. Having an MC who is summoned rather than reincarnated will allow Rifujin to explore a lot of the stuff that wasn't really the point with Rudeus too, like an MC who can't use a lot of the magic and stuff in this world. I can see him being more like a Subaru type isekai protagonist, and it would be interesting to see someone like that in this setting, especially given we know everything that went into why he is there. For once, we would have an isekai protagonist where we know a lot more about the world and how he came to be there than he does, which will be a cool dynamic.

@@NatalieXHunter im with you 100%,my concern is that we wont get a mc as compaling as rudeus(i m basing that on the fact that even tho re:zero is my favorite "fantasy" story i still find myself more captivated by rudeus character growth than subarus....and i fuckin love subaru!!).i can"see" that we ll get the same,or even better,great world and characters but i cant see how the mc is gona reach the same "pick" as the flawed rudeus....i cant manage to expess it as good as i want to but i tried.in my mind mushoku is a story of redemption and constant growth and i cant "see" a better fit for the mc role than rudy,from the other hand im not a writer so propably im wrong....we ve waited for so long so a bit more wait isnt that bad,i guess we ll soon see!much love and a happy new year natalie!

@@84ganta gotta keep in mind that the author did it once. He can do it again. I think my main argument to your concern has to be the epic worldbuilding on top of Natalie pointing out the character design. The MC alone isn't always what makes them compelling. He has set up so many interesting characters within the world he created and lots of important events to happen even after Rudy's time. That's what makes the whole story even more realistic in a way. You can do great things in life, but after your time, life will go on and others will also do great things. Kinda eases the emptiness that comes from finishing a great series. The whole "they lived happily ever after" always seemed lazy to me because that's literally never how it actually works lol

We're not running out at all, there's loads still to come (I'm writing one about Kishirika right now, for instance). I'll be adding Overlord and later Shield Hero content over the next season though, as well as continuing with MT and Re:Zero stuff, as well as any interesting topical anime things that come up. Long term I also plan to make some content about Index/Railgun, but I have a lot of LNs to read before I can do that!

I just realized something and I want to ask about it…. [SPOILERS AHEAD] Since Laplace has the fifth treasure that Orsted needs in order to reach Hitogami, but Perugius plans to kill him as soon as he reincarnates, wouldn’t that put these two in direct conflict? Or does Orsted plan to kill him in order to obtain the treasure? It would seem that, in terms of their goals, Perugius is a direct enemy of Laplace but Orsted is an ally? If so, that’s really interesting and I would love to see how that conflict would play out when Laplace reincarnates…. Maybe I misinterpreted certain details, but anyways, this just occurred to me so I wants to voice my thoughts (btw I have not gotten past volume 22 of the light novel so I would appreciate no spoilers past that part of the story please)

I think that if you like Overlord you will probably enjoy it - Overlord has a lot more focus on worldbuilding than most isekai, and that's also an area Mushoku Tensei is really strong on.

Its kinda bitter taste of Perugius and Laplance relationship, since his mother is the one that train Laplance and a mother figure to him. Asking Laplance to naming Perugius as baby, and caring him in her stead become adoptive father for his adoptive father and mother figure children. Still i didnt understand how Perugius and Orsted didnt had relation to Laplance beside hate also why Laplance himself in his story never took care both of them. Maybe he become hermit and focus too much the mission that adoptive father given to him " Help Orsted to defeat Hitogami " or other reasons that he neglected both of them.

I know this isn’t the focus of the video but you said that Orsted was sent to the human world as a baby. Does this mean that every 200 years Orsted re-starts his life as a baby with hundreds of years of knowledge and experiences?

Not quite - when he loops back it isn't to the very start of his life in the future, so he was basically sent to the future, then lived for quite a long time before the 200 years that gets repeated.

No. I think he takes over the body. And there's a technique to transform your body in Old Dragon's Tale, and I bet Orsted used that Technique.

Yes, idk if you've read Redundancy, but the final chapter of it does seem to show Lara will be going off to get involved with all of that stuff. I think I'll probably make a video with sequel theories soon, because there's so much stuff that has been left open!

No, she doesn't learn about that until waaaaaaay later. She doesn't even learn that Rudeus is definitely from her same world until they meet properly at the university. But because he was reincarnated, so looks totally different now, and he is embarassed about how he must have looked to her before, he doesn't admit that he was the one who saved them until right before she tries to go back to the old world.

Because Orsted has repeated the same time period over 100 times and in every loop, Rudeus Greyrat didn't exist. He knows Nanahoshi is from another world, as she is also someone who has only appeared in this loop, and so her suggesting it may be helpful to let him live persuades him. He was only going to kill Rudeus at all because he was an apostle of Hitogami. He wouldn't have wanted to kill Eris and Ruijerd anyway, because they have always been involved in things later on in loops that he cares about (Ruijerd's daughter, for instance, has been his good friend in other loops, so he would want Ruijerd to live so she can be born).

@@evenindeathistillserve760 In other timelines, Rudeus Greyrat dies as a still born due to the high mana pool from Laplace. But in this timeline his soul is compatible with his new body thus he gets reborn after dying in our world.

I wonder if Perigius actually knows the backstory of Laplace. If he knew why Laplace hates humans, maybe Perugius and Orsted can work together in future, to get Laplace's memories back, to make him whole again. I still don't think Laplace will be totally forgiven, after hwt he has done and how many he killed both directly and indirectly. But it would be so satisfying to Laplace, and provide closure for both Perugius and Laplace.
