Mage build is better in my opinion. Natan needs cooldown and mana, and mage build has items for that. And also. Concentrated energy has hybrid life steal so it works on skills and basic attacks. This will not work with other life steal ones.

*DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A GUIDE, BUT MY OWN PERSONAL BUILD OVERVIEW THAT SUITS MY PLAYSTYLE, WHICH MAY NOT SUIT YOU.* (formerly) Chiyoda #24 Natan here. Here's my build that emphasizes damage from the passive's attack speed increase. This build focused on skill damage, which uses the combo: Ult - 2 - 1 on a bunch of enemies to get max passive stacks, then striking with max attack speed and lots of magic damage from the magic discs passive. *Item Build order* Arcane, Starscythe, Feather, Crystal, Wings, Glaive if tanky enemy, Con. Energy if no tanks. Arcane is obvious, the shoes that gives you more magic penetration (+10) Starlium gives you early lifesteal and CDR. Feather is your main ASPD item along with your passive and the emblem talent Swift. Holy Crystal is for your damage, 21-35% magic damage is powerful as you will build Blood Wings together with the +100 this item already gave you. Blood Wings gives you the shield, good for survivability, and adds 175 Magic Power which is the highest base stat. Glaive is used to counter tanks with magic penetration. Genius doesn't really hit hard with this hero. Concentrated Energy is for more lifesteal if the enemy doesn't build magic defense. Additionally, you can build Immortality or Winter Truncheon for survival if necessary. *Battle Spell* Use purify or inspire depending on enemy CC concentration, high = purify, low = inspire. No need for flicker, you have ult charging at 15 seconds late game. *Emblem* Custom Mage with Swift, Bargain and WF gives you room for losses if you're a beginner. Bargain gives you cheaper items, allowing you to get up from losses or have item advantage ever so earlier - (good for defensive situation where you're extremely counter-picked by the enemy during draft) Swift allows you to scale with 10% attack speed. Custom Mage with Thrill or Swift, WM and WF if you're very confident. WM make items costs normally but has more stats. Good for sustained game. Thrill allows you to (hopefully) win that early game with 16 more attack, as 10% more ASPD during early game doesn't hit as much as literally more attack damage, but will not scale that much. Custom Mage emblem gives you that CDR required to build up your speed (attack and move speed) using passive. WF in general is good for marksmans.

Arcane boots doesn't give you magic attack. It makes your magic damage ignore enemy magic defense instead. If you gain magic attack, your overall skills will hurt pretty much anyone in your way but if you have penetration only, your overall damage is good on heroes but low on minions and objectives

For information in DHS for the new Players, DHS does more damage the more hp the enemy has so if you use DHS on your enemy marksman it might not deal as much damage as in this video

​@@TruffleGallow you read the item description, big w. most people think that dhs is the only item for taking down tanky heroes, but actually it's not. it is overrated. dhs passive deals physical damage regardless your heroes damage type. you don't buy malefic roar with nathan, but divine glaives. your dhs passive doesn't get benefit from divine glaives, but sea halbert does. its not just magic damage mm, but burst damage mm like brody also doesn't get much benefit from dhs. just buy sea halbert and malefic roar if you are fighting against 2 tanks. dhs is totally conditional like facing against high hp heroes such as hylos.

I feel the same way, used it on Natan the other day and I think it must be some kind of bug because there is no way it’s giving Natan 20% life steal.

But the heal from lifesteal is based on damage, so when you use haas claws it gives 25% of your damage on each hit as hp back so when you crit you get extra regen because it's more damage, if you build concentrated energy early then it won't feel like it heals much because of course natan is a late game mm, however once you get to the late game you notice the lifesteal more and it works on his skills too, natan also scales better with magic items especially if you're using starlium scythe plus it gives hp, crit build isn't as viable on natan after the nerf

I don’t really play on Nathan, but I often take a magic feather and chaos claws = imba healed, and the damage is acceptable (don’t take claws or any other type of item for attack speed if the enemy has a character with spike armor or the enemy hero himself has some special moves against basic attack)

I play this game for 7 years and use inspire 3 times maximum , it’s useless skill , at start it’s good , I don’t say anything but in mid and late game when u have a lot of attack speed and vamp it becomes useless , it’s better to have some escape because it is useful in all stages of game

Remember that natan scales better with magic items though especially if youre using starlium scythe for the passive works way better if you go all magic items, i personally take concentrated energy now over haas claws as it gives hp and increases magic power which works well with starlium scythe, dhs is ok however it gives extra phys damage wuth basic attacks even if natans basic attacks deals magic damage, this means this extra damage can be blocked by phys defense and unless you use malefic roar it won't actually give much extra damage and using malefic roar on natan is pointless now, my building on natan is arcane boots, feather, starlium, div glaive, conc energy and holy crystal, if the enemy team isnt tanky you can swap glaive for blood wings or necklace of durance if necessary for any sustain heroes.

Nathan main here, let me give you some advice Feather, genius wand, golden staff, wind of nature, (divine glaive or holy crystal) Natan is a powerful hero using full mage build, BUT if you have some attk speed item you can deliver massive amount of damage. I usually dont use boots so i can buy both holy crystal and divine glaive, but yeah you are a marksman without a boot so you have to be extremely careful where you going, and what's you're doing. Positioning is a really really important thing for nathan By the condition, if your enemy has alot of tank u should use divine glaive And if you're enemy only have 1 tank(damage exp, assasin jungle) best to use holy crystal. But what if enemy has belerick? I use full attack speed build. CC reduction boots, feather of heaven, corrosion scythe, golden staff, wind of nature, demon hunter sword, Wind of nature is important, you can literally obliterate enemy marksman if you bought it. Mythic 75+ would be a different story
