Nataraja Pathu LIVE performance - SDN's Nrithyanjali 2021 - Bharathanatyam Dance

Of all the excellent SDN performances, this one is different on so many levels. Bhakti and surrender to Nataraja seems to have reigned supreme in the entire production. From concept to execution, from singers to dancers, it is perfect. Anything different would have been less so! The intellect in presenting Nataraja at each reprise of "EEsane Sivakami Nesane" is not intruding, but sets up an expectation in the viewer of the Nataraja's darshan and projects poet's mental image. Likewise, the Nritha of the bearers of Nataraja is non-intrusive, like a mother gently rocking her baby, beautiful, harmonious and that enhances the Bhakthi. Items like Nrithyathi Nrithaythi, Sankara Srigiri, Bho Shiva Shambo, Bolo Bolo Sub mil Bolo, Kalinga Narthanan (both versions) celebrate Lord Nataraja and Krishna and any amount of exuberant choreography and extreme ornamentation would be perfectly apt and Nritha in those cases can / should / does celebrate Lords' Nritha. There are cases where Nritha is both the message and the medium. In the case of Nataraja Pathu, the poet's soul searching journey demands overflowing Bhakti message with Nritha being a subdued and unobtrusive medium or messenger and your depiction did exactly that, eminently capturing the spirit of the 10 poems and touching the hearts of viewers. I wonder if invisible hands guided you to the current presentation. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I still remember the earlier version of this dance! BUT this is completely new with numerous improvisations everywhere! Blessed are the palanquin bearers who dance so beautifully using just their feet! Saptarishi is growing up to become a handsome and a pious teenger! The seven stars of this dance compete with each other in their expressions and emotions. The tunes of the stanzas wrench the heart and drive home the pathos of human life! The list of sins a man can commit in his life time is a shocking eyeopener. Maybe if everyone watches this dance everyday, gradually human beings will become better persons! A gentle reminder... I am still eagerly awaiting the release of the AvinAsi paththu on Lord Murugan. If Lord Sivan is there already, can Lord Murugan be far far behind??? Certainly Not!

When I watch this dance again and again, I never fail to shed tears! Also I notice how brilliant Kumari Anjani's performance on veeNa is! She has added several new dimensions to this song - just with her veeNa. I never missed the flute or the violin since the veeNa was making up for every other instrument!

Absolutely. We too felt that Kum. Anjani's veeNa was superb in this item. It sets up the mood from the beginning, supports the vocal and then soars to new heights when Sri. Srikanth's vocal stops, conveys the Bhava and also previews the Bhava (and rAgA) for the next poem. Plus the VeeNa is swaying Lord Nataraja as much as the dancers do. 🙏🙏🙏

@@rsr7241 My younger sister is a disciple of Prof Dr S Ramanathan. She is teaching Veena and vocal to a few selected students. She also praised Kumari Anjani skyhigh after watching the dance. Such proficiency is the result of relentless persuit of perfection over a long period of time. But then how at such an young age? Special talents are gifts of God 🙏 I never missed the VeNu or the Violin during the entire song.

I have to say Rajadarshini was awesome! In a group where each performer is as near to perfection as can be, she was embodying the verses itself! And this piece, in its entirety, is so perfect! One is spoilt for choice to decide who to watch, so perfect are they! I will not say anything about Harinie because, to me, she is dance personified…and who can critique a person who has given her everything to dance!

This repeat stage version brings a different experience, wonderful in its own way.👍 Excellent synopsis (including pretty well-drafted subtitles in English kindly given in the previous one) ... essential for full appreciation of its ultimate /spiritual goal. 🙏 It would heighten the enjoyment further if SDN could also list the raagams used, for purpose of cross-verification with their personal identification by the rasika. 🙏🙏
