The "Zen" philosophy is a minimalistic one. With a different approach, this palette has many gorgeous shades for "one-and-done" type or more minimal looks. I love the mini as well.

Agreed!! I think that is what she was going for! I'm so excited to get my hands on this today. I've been enjoying different textures and formulas lately especially toppers that everyone seems to hate. I like to layer and see what I come up with. Honestly: i feel like this palette was made from leftover shader from other palettes. I mean the shades that didn't make it to some other palettes-i see love, bronze and circo loco palette vibes in those shades somehow.

Actually, I love the color story, it interprets the meaning of Zen. So the color represent the five elements in muted ways. And their nature cycle of the five elements： wood generates fire , fire generates earth , earth generates metal , metal generates water , and water , in turn , generates wood. That’s why you will find some brown shade works beautifully with gold... and being zen, everything will be gentle, full in under tone but never too bright. And as you said, in the world of zen, everything is about balance and harmony, so everything should not be over shined other color... I really appreciate her courage to experiment and tried her best to interpret Zen by using all muted color, when she knows everyone loves her super shiny metallic. I like ND very much because every time she will try new things with new concept, even through she knows what can help her make big money.

I just got this today and love the color story! I think this is the kind of palette you can take with you anywhere but you need to decide: am I going to do a warm toned look or like a blue/green look? It doesn’t make sense to mix the two.

She layout the color in a way that every vertical trio, diagonal trio, horizontale ligne and every quad is a look. Every palette of hers are build like that. Maybe you could try looks with the layout and see if you like it more

The way each person uses makeup is quite personal. I feel like Morgan tends to blend more than others and diffuse the colour more. I agree that it looks lackluster here. But I am sure you can make it work, don’t be influenced by others if you loved its vibe from day 1

Maybe try using the dark red shade on the outer V and the blue matte in the crease and the blue shimmers on the lid and you’ll like it better. That’s just one of my tricks to make warm/cool tones work better together.

I rec'd my ZENDO palette on Mother's Day I preordered it. I LOVE IT. I do agree the color combination can be challenging but I did a cool brown/teal look and a pink/orange brown look they both came out fantastic, I will continue to try to play with it. You do have to be creative. I am praying for a RETRO palette in this size. The shadows all blended quickly and easily for me.

Absolutely agreed! Every look I've seen so far on KZbin all look the same color and tone when done. When placed monochromatically on the lid, it just looks like 1 color, no distinction in depth or tone.

The last look you did with this palette is actually very very pretty on you! I know you don’t like the zendo palette, but don’t give up on it! The look at the end of the video is so pretty on you! And although I only like 5 of the shades, I’d repurchase this palette just for those 5 shades. They give me the prettiest neutral with a twist look that I can wear everyday, but it looks interesting and not just like a boring brown. Balance: transition Mindful: all over lid and in crease Zeal: outer and inner 1/3 lid and crease Yama: dab in center of lid and center crease, over mindful Equilibrium: lower lash line, and wrap up around outer corner to dab over zeal on the outer corner. Equilibrium compliments Zeal, it brings out the bluish greenish reflects in Yama. It isn’t bold, but it’s subtle and takes the neutral eye to the next level. Colors are subtle, but so pretty! If equilibrium is too blue on lower lash line, sometimes I put down bBalance first, and sometimes will darken outer corner with Zeal and go back and forth between the shades equilllibrium and zeal. Don’t give up on this palette! Lol, I know, it’s just makeup….

As someone with mature lids, I appreciate ND shimmers. They show less texture on my lids than other brands. But this Zendo palette seems to offer a more satin-like finish than a true shimmer which excites me even more👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

You know, even though you don’t like this palette, this look you did is absolutely gorgeous! I did get this palette when it released, I’ve been loving it ever since! I will admit, I only use 5 of the 15 shades. But…. I would definitely repurchase if I hit pan, even if I only use those 5 shades, I love the combo of those shades so much! Balance: transition Mindful: crease and lid Zeal, inner 1/3 lid, outer 1/3 lid (halo). Blend into outer and inner crease, Very lightly blend zeal through center of crease Yama: dab in center of lid (and center crease) Balance: lower lash line Equilibrium: lower lash line and then wrap around to outer corner of eye and dab on outer corner over zeal. Then I reach for Galaxia from the mini retro palette. I love this look so much, I’d repurchase this palette in a heartbeat, just for those 5 shades.

Looking again, I think the palate lends itself to pairs of colors. It's like never mixing air and water unless you want to make rain. Or earth and water making mud. I might try warm peach and turquoise to create a desert bloom though.... or pale blue and silvery blue for a foggy day.

Exactly. Every time I see and use Natasha palette I am so inspired and impressed (present palette included). Tom Ford eyeshadows have been however the most disappointing colour stories and formulas I tried in years. And I purchased them after so many rave reviews. So now I take every ”first impression/review” video with a grain of salt and just go with my own gut.

Yes to each their own ♥️ but this is the first kind of negative video about the palette I’ve seen. I think the beauty of ND is the consistent quality which this palette has, and her ability to grab the folks who don’t need the crazy metallics and the ones that do. I don’t need Pow 💥 every time so this is fine for me, and I actually didn’t have (nor did I notice anyone else) having issues with creating looks, but I think if you’re turned off by something initially you’re just going to be blah about anything that’s created regardless

Morgan, you hit the nail on the head! There does seem to be a disconnect between the two sides of the palette! In the videos I’ve seen so far, the looks have been either using the warm colors on the left side of the palette, or the cool colors on the right side. I don’t think you can realistically combine the two sides together in one look. For a palette to be cohesive, you should be able to work with the entire palette. That would make it more difficult for beginners or people who haven’t had color theory to work with. I also agree with you on the lack of sparkle with the shimmers, as well as the need for a much lighter shade to place in the inner corners and under the brow arch. I’m glad I saw your review.
